FIX LIST: money needing to be spent first!

Posted 03-09-2008 at 12:43 AM by AlaskanDsm
How many people need to fix certain things with their car before they can do any mods? If you didn't, your car would just eventually fall apart! *sigh* Oh well. I guess WHENEVER I get money, I can start to fix things!

-New LF axle
-New LF caliper
-4 New struts
-Master brake cylinder
-boost leak test
-vacuum leak test
-new intake
-fix radiator (got fixed once)
-new brake pads/rotors
-horn switch in steering wheel
-all clips for re-attaching the trim and door panels
-new hatch hinge
-fix oil leak at oil feed line (bought new washers..###### need to be tightened)
-new tie rod end (possibly)
-replace all dash lights
-replace heater core (leaks antifreeze all over my window via defroster)
-power steering pump (wines at idle...just flat out loud)
-exhaust manifold has 2 cracks (need new or weld)
-make sure windows are on track and clean the tracks
-mirror vibrates and moves when drives...tighten or replace????
-fix cruise control...switch engages but the car doesn't drive lol
-rebuild my transmission
-find out why shift stick 1-4 feels so wobbly/limp/no resistance
-4 wheel alignment
-new windshield wipers

wow...I need a lot of money haha. And then I can finally start the mods that I want to do and unfortunatly the first mod I need is a turbo...my 14b is beginning to scare me!!!

Get to a junkyard and buy things piece by peice. There is a site called www.ladsm.com and in the claasified section there is a guy selling a plethera of CHEAP!!!! stock parts. I am at the opposite end of the spectrum. My car is near completion and all that holds me back is a $250.00 wide band.. But when there is no money $250 may as well be a million. I've tried to trade misc DSM parts but there is no bites.... Oh, well I guess thats why they call it a project. There once was a time I needed an external waste gate and the $225 seemed so far away... But somehow I got it. So stay on course and don't give up. Its an upward battle that is definately worth the effort...Larry

my list is long too, seems the more things I cross off, the more things I remember to add. The list is longer now than before I started! rofl

I think you gotta prioritize, and throw in some minor mods as you go. One day you can look back and feel good about your work

Wow, thats a list. Kudos to you for getting the car running solid BEFORE modding! If you are looking for stock replacements I have: calipers, intake, ps pump, ex manifold, and a complete cruise control system. (Im willing to bet you dont need new cruise components-pm me and I can help you figure it out) Let me know about those stock parts, I have them laying around and I'd be glad to let them go for cheap to a help a dsmer out!

I found That If you save up and Hit one area of the car hard then fix and do preventive repairs at the same time its a little more rewarding, Also line up UPGRADES with repairs, Looking at your list a couple stand out as possible UPGRADES that will also take care of the fix, Sure you may not get full use but Killing two birds with one stone is a good thing......

When I did my struts I also rebuilt my entire front end bushings and tie rods brakes, lines ect.....and the same with my rear end...... All it takes is carefull plan and knowing what parts are needed....

I agree with all of you. this list is long and i rebuilt the motor...bow i need to rebuild the car lol. But I plan on doing as many upgrades as i can that are smart with some of the things that need to be replaced. like i am trying to decide if i want to get new struts and springs or get coilovers... just an example. but the money has to come first!!
