Looking for DSMers running automatic cars with aftermarket cams. What are you running and how are they compared to stock? Do you notice a little, a lot, or no affect in low end power? Any dyno sheets? I'm thinking about running BC 272's or Kelford 272's. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

*EDIT* after more thorough searching I found one thread with information on BC272s. Anyone running Kelford 272s?

There is a HUGE difference between the BC272s and the Kelford 272s. The BC272 is a very small cam where the Kelford 272 is a BIG cam. You won't notice much loss in low end more than likely, if at all, you may however notice more difficulty in stalling up the car for a launch depending on your setup and tune.

I'm leaning more towards getting the Kelford 272 cams. Do you think I'll be able to run these cams on stock springs and retainers or do those need to be replaced?

I sure as hell wouldn't try those cams on stock springs. Even Evo stock springs are sketch with those cams. No reason to play with fire... I think the FP beehives are probably plenty for them, kiggly springs or supertech duals if you want to overkill it.

Is there that much of difference between FP beehive and the Kiggly beehive valvespring kit? Kiggly beehives cost $166 more. What do you use? Are these springs and retainers just drop in process or do they require extra process to install? Thanks for the imput.

I'm honestly not sure what the difference is on the FP springs vs the kigglys. I know there's lots of different types of beehive springs available so they could very well be different, and I'd guess they are due to the price. The FP ones I'd guess are enough just based on the fact that they are used with cams larger than the Kelford 272. Personally I have supertech high tension duals but will probably switch to the kiggly beehives when I build another head for my car. Any of the spring setups I mentioned should drop right in as long as your head isn't worn or damaged in some strange way, and you have the right stuff together (i.e. springs and retainers and locaters have to all be compatible) and if you run dual springs you need the low profile valve seals. Normally you'd want to check the spring tension but for those cams any of those 3 springs should be fine just dropped in on a stock head.

How are the Supertech springs you use? A vendor is offering to sell me Supertech dual valve springs and titanium retainers for $350 shipped. Best deal I found for Kiggly beehive valvesprings are $425 shipped, and the FP beehive springs and retainer kit is $284+shipping.
Decisions, decisions...

Well the first time around I was accidently sent a recalled version of the retainers and they had rubbing issues. They sent me the correct ones and I've had no issues since. I have no complaints since then, ran the FP3s up to 9000 RPM with no valve float issues with OEM valves. My reason for switching to the kiggly springs when I build a nice ported head for my car is that I figure if I'm going to as much trouble as I am putting together a nice head I want nothing but the best in it. But I'd probably be fine keeping these if I wanted to.

Yes, make sure you have the machine shop (or whoever installs them) test for seated pressure at installed height. BC makes OK stuff, not bad mouthing them, just saying, better safe then sorry you know!

Thanks HighPSI Tsi Guy and e85_4g63 for your advice. I just ordered the Kelford 272s since I was able to get them at a good price and I'm still deciding on the springs and retainers.

Who did you order them through?

I'm going to order mine within the hour, but I've been hearing that most suppliers are out of stock right now.

I've decided on either the Supertech dual springs, or the Kiggly behives.

Yeah, the Kelford 272 cams are out of stock at a lot of places. I ordered mine from Fast Track Auto Services. Send Dan a PM. His DSMtuners username is nikkeebabee. He has to special order them since they're out of stock right now, but he'll get them back in stock soon. I highly recommend them since they have good service, great prices, and free shipping! Send him a PM and let him know I referred you. He'll probably give you a discount price on the Kelford cams. ;)

What are your opinions on running a set of delta 264 cams in a 2g auto? The car has a 14b, 3" exhaust, and that is pretty much it. My brother is looking to get a little more out of his dsm without having to buy an afc or dsmlink.
