I have 92 TSi AWD auto. When I am driving about 65 on the interstate I am cruising at 3000 RPM. This seems high to me. I have OD on and Power on.

I just got a 93 TSI AWD,..same thing at 3000 RPM, my N/T auto was about 2400 RPM duroing the same hwy speed,..what gives?

Is this normal?,..I need to know if I should take it in to get cleaned/inspected/rebiult???

Agreed. My '91 TSI FWD turned 2700 @ 60 mph and the gearing and/or final drive is higher on AWD's so 3000 rpm @ 65 sounds completely normal. One reason they geared AWD's higher is probably because of the aded weight ot the car.. 1g turbo's don't have lock-up torque converters so a 2g AWD A/T which does should be turning noticably slower at 65.

Just for future reference and as a comparison:

1998 GSX auto in OD
2,500 RPM = 65mph
3,000 RPM = 79mph

Your N/T had lower gearing and a different final drive AND a lock-up torque converter. The lock-up TC alone drops your rpms by approx 350.

Anyone know what a 5-spd 1g FWD + AWD A/T is turning at 60? Just curious.

Does the lockup TC come in the 1.8L also?

Only the 2g's used Lockup TCs.

Want to see worse? Try a 1.5L AT Colt. 55mph was like 3500rpm. 3-spd Auto.
