What makes you think that this is a converter problem??

-John

well a couple people have told me that the problems ive been having sound alot like converter problems ....

the thing that makes me think it might not be the tranny is the fact that we pulled the car forward and it unlocked the rear breaks and then i got reverse back ....so i figured then that it was not the t-case or the tranny . another weird thing is when its in neutral it makes a weird whinning noise ....and it i cant make the car move forward a little bit but i have to rev the car to about or around 5500 rpms ...so people beilive that the converter is slipping ....i honestly dont know crap about trannys so what ever help you can provide would be awesome .....

thanks

-John

Definitely not a problem caused by the converter...

It sounds like the trans is slipping in forward.

A converter problem needs to effect both forward and reverse equally. (It may be bad from being contaminated from the transmission failure but it isn't the cause of your symptom)

i had pretty much the same problem...couldnt get it to go forward much but was able to reverse it with no problem...ended up rebuilding the transmission...i also ended up changing the torque converter..

now my question for john, was it really necessary to replace the torque converter with this problem or does it depend on other factors..

Trans failure=replace the converter.
Trans rebuild=replace the converter
Bad converter=replace the converter and probably rebuild the trans.

i just had to do a tranny swap 2 weeks ago changing a torq coverter is easy!
LOL one u get to it u just half to remove everything in the way take out the trany and the torq converter slips right out and to put a new one in just slide it in MAKE SURE IT SLIDES BACK ALL THE WAY AGAISNT THE BACK OF THE TRANNY!
trust me if ur gonna do this make sure ur schedule is clear for the day. :talon:

ps dont be fooled if u take out the trany it looks small but weighs around 400 pounds
(i learned this the hard way :) )
