What exactly is "flocking"? I read the link to the Nissan forum and what I got was it is a textured paint?

I'm still reading up on it myself, but from what I've read, it's actually glueing (sp) little pieces of fabric to the dash using a special gun and adhesive to get it to stick.

Looks and sounds interesting. Do you have the thread/site that you are reading about it at? I am now interested in this.

I first heard about it here about a year ago, but forgot about it after I lost my SRT-4 when I lost my job... but now that I have something I can dump my $ into again (well once I start my new job), I'm really starting to do some research into it to see how much it would cost to do and how reliable it is. Apparently it's a big thing in the rallying world because it reduces the glare alot

In my experience (professionally trained upholstery tech) flocking is good for use in small cubby holes and such. To do a whole dash would not only be difficult (if you are concerned with having an even texture across), it wouldn't last long. The material is not very resistant to sun fading. And durability is a nowhere near what it would need to be on a daily driven car. If it was only a show car, I could understand doing it. But on a car you plan to drive much, I would try to avoid it.

It does look nice though.

so it wouldnt last long ?? how long is long to you? would it last if it was just on the dash and no one touched or pushed into it with great force?? girls like to put their feet up on my dash for some reason, would that damage it?

Girls feet would probably rub some of it off. Especially if it was in the same place everytime.

IF nobody touched, rubbed, or put their feet on it, you would probably get it to stay on until the color started to give out. I wouldn't imagine more than a year if parked outside in the sun alot. As I said, it would be a great mod for a show car.

The flock material is pretty much made of the exact same stuff a faux suede. I have a piece of suede that was left over from a headliner job I did 2 years ago. It's a very light grey now, and used to be black. And that's just from sitting on my shelf that gets sunlight a few hours a day.

It would also collect dust and dirt that would be hard to clean off without damaging it.
