Anyone that has done this: how is it in tight corners? Or sharp angle's, tight areas were the roller will not fit? can you brush those areas? I need to do my hood and am interseted in this. Wondering if the Rustolem black will be different than the Mitsu black.

Aww man, really? I guess I am going to have to get a small amount of the smoke gray and test it out to see what it looks like. Hopefully it turns out well...

Just a thought, I understand cutting the paint with mineral spirits since it is an oil base, but why is everyone using mineral spirits to clean the car? Why not use denatured alcohol? No residue to deal with and it should clean very well. Just load it up in a spray bottle and go after it.

I'm guessing that this would be okay to do over fiberglass as well? I've got a Yamaha R1 that could use some new paint.

I really didn't run into this problem too much except for my hood. I have my hood rolled down and i put in some gussets on the sides. I rolled as much as I could, then went back later after it had dried and got it with the roller brush, but with my hand not on the roller holder. I just dipped it into the paint and kind of dabbed it on. Not the best method, but it worked out pretty good. The sanding took care of the uneveness and after about 3 layers I got it pretty smooth.

I actually did clean mine with denatured alcohol before the painting. I used it after sanding in between layers too. Funny you should mention the spray bottle. I used one and it worked better than the pour and wipe.

EclipseTrbo420A, can you post pics of the paint/cans that you got from Home depot. Also what grit of sandpaper did you use before paint and in between coats?

Yea, here it is in the quart sized and the gallon is just a gray color with the same writing.

I used 250ish (medium) before the paint then after the first coat I used 800 then after the 2nd coat I used 600.

I will use 600 after this 3rd coat dries then after 2 more coats I will use 800. I hope that was clear haha. Heres the can

I think I am also going to try cutting the paint with denatured alcohol and painting a banged-up fender from my wife's truck. I want to see if it cuts the dry time but doesn't weaken the paint.

That isnt going to work. Think of the alcohol as water and the paint as oil. Think of the results you get when mixing oil and water.

So... if I shake it really hard it'll blend?

K, I'll try a very small mix (just 'cause) and see since it is a fender we're throwing out anyway. I'm sure you're right but it can't hurt to try it (unless it creates a toxic cloud which kills me and everyone in a 50ft radius... that'd hurt.)

yeah... it's Friday... drink number two is half gone on an empty stomach...

Does the word "alcoholic" have any meaning to you? Each pint I had was w/o ice and about 1/5 rum each.

Okay, the pictures look good, but someone straight up tell me, how different does it look than a good paint job done professionally? Is it easily noticeable that it wasn't done conventionally?

Hey I think total im going to do 9 coats just because I want maximum coverage..I mean if Im doing all that work for 6 coats then whats a little more to throw on 8

and heres how I would do it if I were starting fresh

prep> then 1 coat > wetsand 800 > 2 more coats > wet sand 600 > 2 more coats > 600 again > 2 more > 800 2 more coats > sand 800 > 1000 > and then 1500 > buff.
