You need to know EGT's in order to properly tune. You will want to how lean your fuel is as to not melt things as was stated before (high temps), or how rich it is (low temps). So it is important to know if you plan on modding. How do you fix it? Turn down the boost, or use the safc to adjust feul trims.

Your opinons needed, 2 or 3 gauge pod, which gauges??

98,TSI, AWD,A/T

From everything I've read, the OEM stock boost and oil pressure gauge are totaly BS, and based only on a best guess from the ECU.

Anyway, looks to me like this is one of mods I need to make.

Going to start first with the boost gauge in a "A pilar" pod setup.

Just looking for opinons on 2 or 3 gauge pod, and if 3, should the 3rd gauge be a Air Fuel gauge or Exhaust temp or other what gauge?

Also, opinions on best bang for the $ on gauges makes and models would most helpfull to me at this point.

Many Thanks my friends....

Howie

Get boost and EGT for sure. Dotn bother with an A/F
If you want a 3rd guage either get a fuel pressure or oil pressure guage.

Hook up a temp guage to your transmission.

Boost EGT and tranny temp will be most important on an automatic.

Uhmm as far as I know no stock car has the transmission temprature anywhere.

Some cars have engine temps but that is only going to tell you when your car is about to blow up or it is too cold for the heater to be working yet.

Boost and oil pressure.

Third would be water temp.

On my beater I have only oil pressure because I'm a cheap ass.

Yes the car should go 13's, and yes I play with fuel and all that other stuff.

I adjust boost by fuel cut and datalogging, and EGT's are only a side effect of knock. Oil pressure because I have a leak I'm too lazy to fix, but sometime it turns into a faucet.

My "race" car has a few gauges in it, but nothing extreme. No need.

In it's modded factory bezel, it has a boost gauge, a tach, the W/B 02 display, oil pressure, and water temp. Fuel level is also throw in there, but it's the factory one rigged to look nice.

If you want AF gauge just get the jupmtronics and see the actual o2 voltage, and you don't need a pod for that.

no... I agree with him... it is better to take the time and effort to ridicule someone, rather than take the same time and effort to type somthing helpful...

Getting a few gauges...but which one???

I am looking at getting a set of Defi BF gauges and found a place that sells them in a set of three. You get boost, egt, and your choice of either fuel pressure or oil pressure. Now knowing how shitty the factory gauges are, should I go with the oil or the fuel? Is fuel pressure really needed if you don't have a lot of mods??? Need some help soon, the money is burning a hole in my pocket

I know, but I can never get the search to work right. How in the hell do you search for "fuel pressure" and not get results for just fuel, and results for pressure. I want the damn results for fuel pressure. Anyway thanks.

And BTW Cucumber, refuring to the post I made in the Hangout about DSMtalk, I'd like to be able to use the damn search over there, sorry if I haven't owned a DSM for a long time, haven't been a member forever, and don't know every reason why things are the way they are. I thought these boards where here to get questions answered, not to get shat on by the older members because we asked a question that someone asked 5 months ago. Sorry if you think that I'm wasting space on the server, but just think about how many times you've replied with "try a search" or "that's been covered before". If you'd just answer the question, you'd save the space because someone wouldn't have to reply after your comment.

OK, thanks for the replies, but now for the little kid question WHY? Is fuel pressure more inportant than oil pressure? I've spent a while looking thought the threads that have turned up on the searches, but none really go into the reasons why you need what gauge over another. I know people say to get a aftermarket boost gauge cause the factory one is shite, but if the factory oil gague is the same why am I not getting recommended to replace that? I'm just trying to advance my knowlegde. Thanks again guys for what you have already told me.

One more thing if someone could help me clear up a few things...

1. A/F gaue...I've heard they useless???

2. EGT...I know what is messures, but how does it help you?

3. Fuel pressure, again know what it messures, but how is it useful

You know, better yet can anyone recommend some good books that lay down the whole tuning prosses, or atleast what's what (explenations of fuel maps, timing, ect.). There's a lot that I don't know, but would like to.
