AWD/ FWD second Difference?

Hopefully this isnt a repost but i was wondering how many seconds apart in the 1/4 2 cars would be. Both drivers were at the same skill level and both cars had the same mods. The only difference would be fwd and awd. What im really asking is whats the second difference between awd and fwd.

The only thing is the GS-T will be playing catchup, if the race is only 1/4 then the gs-x will win probably by about .2-.4 tenths I think. But if you make it a longer run the gs-x will start falling off uptop because of the drivetrain powerloss from the AWD setup.

Alot of people go with gs-x's just because they hate traction problems. But with a gs-t if you give it a quaif lsd and good tranny then they will run nearly the exact same.

I have 1995 Road & Track and Motortrend magazines and the key in the comparison is weight. A 1995 fully loaded GSX came in at 3345 lbs while a fully loaded GST came in at 2876 lbs. That's a huge difference so if you can get a good FWD launch it should be very close.
 
Like stated:

.2-.4 with the 1/4 going to the AWD. Same skill, same driver and that is the end product.

If you are talking about anything over 1/4 the GS-T will beat the GSX. Take into consideration the GS-t is playing catchup from the launch and only gets edged out by that amount goes to show if you were going ANY farther the GS-T will take the race.

Interesting. None of those number jibe with what's on the DSM site:

I don't know the source for those numbers, nor if the magazines do actual weighing. But the final drive on the AWD is also lower.
 
All I know is when my car was totally stock I could still wring a 1.9 60ft from it and pull the 1/4 in a low 15ish quarter mile as in 15.1-15.2. IIRC...

Anybody have any similar stories for a GST for comparison?

Interesting that the gap is 81lbs lower in the 2G cars, wonder why that is. Obviously something extra was done that added weight to the fwd car later on because the AWD car only picked up 49 lbs from 1G to 2G. The FWD car picked up 130lbs from 1G to 2G.

It's possible they weighed models with different options, and that is why the results aren't consistent. We don't know what options are on the cars on the DSM site or the Road & Track magazine.

The GSX in Road & Track stated that the manufacturer's claimed weight was 3200, their fully equipped version came in at 3345. I also have a Car & Driver with an 1995 Eagle Talon TSi FWD and their curb weight was 2877 so that is very consistent. Hey I didn't make this stuff up, I have tons of old car magazines and this is what I dug up and I find it fairly interesting.

You can see the note that the weights are approximations. The weights in the magazines were curb weights which is the test vehicles weight with its options done by the magazine. It is not uncommon for their to be a variance between manufacturers claimed weight and weight as tested.
 
Hate to burst all of your AWD bubbles, but stock for stock, its a dead even match...check any stock 1/4 mile time sheet.
