Crank Shaft pulley loose, not attached, timing belt fell of of crank shaft pulley

Just like it says. MAJOR PROBLEMS! I recently replaced my alternater belt, but found out that the top pulley was damaged. One of the ridges was bent onto the other ridge next to it. So it made the new belt just jump off track. After countless tries to get it to work. I was under my car Monday morning before school trying to get it back on. To notice that my timing belt wasnt even on my crank shaft pulley! I freaked out. To my suprise my crank shaft pulley was totally loose, it wiggled side to side, I could take it off with my hands if I could. NOT GOOD! I know im going to need a motor, or pull mine out and re-build, or see how much damage is done or if it did any. Just need more info. Please help.

You sure its the timming belt? Cause the crank pulley holds two belts. then the timing belft is behind a shroud! can you take pics and post pics. It sounds like to me your harmonic dampener went out, common problem! but its a pain in the ass. Take some pics if you can!

Thats it. When I move the pulley I can see the rubber ring behind it. So just buying an aftermarket under drive pulley will fix it? Also. Will I have to pull my motor to get to it since it is almost impossible to reach. Or atleast pull it out halfway? Was there any engine damage after this hapened?

If it did not damage your timing belt you are okay. I would inspect it anyways, don't dick around when it comes to that. If it did not damage the TBelt, get a new dampener and new accessory belts and you should be okay..

Ive been looking at the Buschur Racing Underdrive Damper Pulley. It uses a OEM type balancer. Thats the only one I could find like that instead of the stock OEM one. The timing belt came off at idle or when i shut it off. I do not know yet. Once it stops being wet outside I will put it on jack stands and try to figure what I am going to do. It would be safer to take off the head (again) and look to see if I bent any valves. Im just wondering if I should really get that Buschur Racing UDP. It comes with belts, and the harmonic dampener for $350. Im willing to pay that much. I just need some opinions on if I should get it or not. Plus it will free up some what good HP, plus alot lighter. Id say its best for the buck.

-Just replace with a new OEM balancer, use the $ on other things, the old one lasted 11 yrs, do you plan to keep this car for another 11 yrs?

-As for finding out if the valves are bend or not, if the timing belt is already off the motor, just open the valve cover, loosen the cam bearings enough so all the valves are close, then remove the spark plug, pump compressed air into the combustion chamber, it you hear air coming out from either the muffler or the intake pipe, the valves are bended, if the timing belt is still on the car, then finish the rest of the job and do a leak down test. info can be found at vfaq.com.

-Don't need to remove the timing belt to replace the harmonic balancer, the timing belt is on another sprocket secure with that big bolt in the middle, to remove the balancer, simply remove the 4 12mm bolts and it should come off.

Buschur is nice but a waste of money IMO. ask around I have had several that people have just given to me! Post on KCDSM im sure someone will just give you one to get you by!

i had the same problem, except this is the second time it has happened, so i said screw that stock pully with the rubber crap and ordered an extreme under drive pully, it was only 100 bux

I am looking around for a OEM one. But no normal auto parts store around here carries them around here. But I did find a company that sells them. DSM Motorsports does. Cheap to. So I might just pick the stocker one up from them.

I had a similiar problem as you, but i had alittle difference results. When my harmonic dampner pulley went it got crooked, and broke my ac belt. my ac belt proceeded to get caught up and broke my timing belt cover and then got binded up in my timing belt, the belt never broke , but i bent 5 valves

I think you're confusing one of the accessory belts for the timing belt. The timing belt does NOT loop on the crankshaft pully belt. It loops on a gear that the pulley bolts to. As others have stated, all that's probably happened is that your pulley has seperated, and you'll need to replace it with another, then re-do your accessory belts (i.e. adjust them properly, or replace if they're damanged). Now, it is possible for the pulley to damage the timing belt, since it was free to move horizontally. I've had this happen to me twice, but fortunately the worst that happened was a little scarring of the lower timing belt cover.

Now what's sad is that this is a common problem. You can order a replacement of course from a dealership, and it should be $80-90 if my memory serves me from one of the DSM discounting dealerships like www.partznet.com and www.mitsupartsdirect.com (sorry if those sites aren't correct, hehe).

I wouldn't recommend a UDP unless it has a dampener. The dampener is there for a reason and going without one can cause problems down the road.
