Nova,
ok, so today I pulled the motor out of my 89 mirage turbo in preparation for the 4g63 swap. so I pulled off the driver side CV, and it came right out, the other end stayed in the intermediate shaft, and there were just these 3 bearing looking things covered in grease. So what should I do, have em rebuilt? or buy new ones (if I could even find them anyplace, being that this car is so rare). how much might it cost? how long would it take?, I need to get them back asap.

I pulled a CV joint apart once while doing a tranny swap. The clamp that held the CV boot on came apart, and the joint came apart. I just got a new boot clamp, and slid the joint back together, then reclamped it. No problems since then. Good luck.

my cv boot also just went caplump on my 97 gsx... replacing it i read on vfaq.com isnt that bad but takes quite a few steps just to replace it... u could drive car around if u keep the axle joints (3 prong thingies) greased and clean but not for long. i would suggest getting a new cv boot and replacing it.

hello cvs do come apart if your boots torn buy new one. pry out the green end housing of jiont with 2 levers(not screw drivers but thats what i use)and there should be more balls on cv shaft itself and there should be flex coupling make sure you note orientation of this part if you remove c clip .

any tech'll do it for ya cheap, replace the boots i mean, some straps need a special tool to tighten them properly. if the axles didn't click when you drove the car, don't buy new ones if you don't have to, just use new high speed cv grease so they won't wear quick
