i have naturally wanted to go and turbo my 99gs. but i feel it would be better if i get the howellautomotive stroker motor first. so that is my plan for this winter. i dont know if i should just email these questions to howellautomotive but i thought some tuners might know. i still plan on going turbo, so should i get the 8.6 pistons or the 10.5 or the 12.5? i assume the 8.6 so i have lower compression for the turbo, but how bad will this hurt performance until i go turbo which may not be for a little while? any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

trying to tune with a compression ratio of 10.5:1 will not be easy to get rid of knock! it also will not be able to run high amounts of boost...especially on pump gas!
definately go with the 8.6:1 compression if you plan on turboing!

thats what i figured. i dont know if you know, but how much hp am i planning on looking at with the 8.6 pistons because i dont know how long it will be till the turbo kit comes.

I have exactly what you want as far a setup. Myself and Kirby have the Howell 2.2L stroker motors. I also have cams etc in my head and Kirby has the stock head.

Definitely go with the 8.6:1 compression pistons if you want to go turbo in the future. I dont think that you will lose too much bottom end power by doing so.

Another recommendation. Look into the FTY ( fasterthanyou.com ) stroker motor. I have heard nothing but good things about their service and motors. Howell has its followers and enemies for various reasons. My engine took quite a bit longer than the 4-6 weeks that their website quotes. Other than that I have always had great service from Howell and have no problems.

You may save some cash by going with FTY also.

Oh... as far as how much hp you will get or have....

.. that depends on how the rest of your setup is. What turbo, size of injectors, etc etc.

As a general rule...you are bumping up displacement 10% so figure about a 10% increase in hp over the 2.0L with the same mods.

personally, i would wait to get everything at the same time. Buy the stuff one at a time, then when you have everything, throw it on all at once. just my .02 tho.
