Would turbo 1g cams fit my n/t laser? Would stock cams from a turbo give me any extra hp. Would they even fit??

~Andrew~:laser:

Yes, and yes; If you have a dohc motor that is. 91-94 turbo 5spd cams are what you want.

i recommend crower cams if your going aftermarket....

Crower Cams

Go for the stage 3, the cams are ground for the turbo model so the stage 3 on an NT would perform like the description of a stage 1.5-2 in the NT. Just my 2 cents.

turbo cams are a cheap way to gain some good ponies....helps the engine breathe better, especially at high rpms......definatley get manual tranny ones from 91-94....most aggressive grind.......you can also jus tuse the cam gears on the cams which help simplify the instalation.....just make sure you know how to set the timing belt.....and make sure the tensioner is set CORRECTLY or it could royally mess up your engine.

What is tensioner?? And, I don't know how to set shit on my car. I'm only 15. I'm just looking into cheap ways to gain some horsepower for later when I get a job and can buy the stuff myself since my dad is a **** and wants to spend all our money on our mustang and my brothers camaro. He's a V8 man. So he doesn't reallyl ike to spend money on my "four banger" as he calls it.

The idle change won't be very noticable.

Well, I know it's a :dsm: but, it's not a v-8 or turbo. Turbo cams are a great mod. The engine wants more air because it was designed for a turbo. Ask your dad what his gas mileage is. There is a way to change the cam without resetting the timing. It's not easy though, it requires patience.

I wouldn't try this as my first mod, unless you are going to have a shop or dsm'r do it for you.

I was going to see how much a shop would charge to do it. My mom says they charge like $75 an hour. So, I might have to wait till I get a job. I wasn't planning on doing it as a first mod. I'm going to get exhaust, 2.5" from cat back w/ a universal muffler with a dual tip. Hopefully CAI and Pacesetter header. Before I get the cams done. I'm looking for horsepower, but not to much. It's got to last me a long time. And I have to drive it in snow. :( I just want to be able to keep up with my brothers Camaro. It's close already, but thats only because my brother sucks at driving.

Yes they will fit safely, but you will need a fuel mod of at least minor degree to accomidate them to be completely safe.

what kind of fuel mod? i was thinkign injectors but everyone tells me that the first gen eclit has big enough injectors for lots of options. how much horsepower gain will i get out of these cams?

i know ive had both exhaust systems......

greddy sp... has low deep sound at idle but then at redline all your hear is the intake

greddy evo ... very quiet at idle..... after 3000 rpm has more balls then sp... i could barely hear my cai intake

if anybody wants a greddy sp muffler axle back let me know i am selling it for $50.... stainless steel i have bought it like 3 years ago... and i have upgraded to the greddy evo

I would recommend an afpr to boost fuel pressure, that is the cheapest route. I got a B&M commando designed for a 95-99 4g63t, but it worked just fine. Cost 68 bucks.

I don't know why they say they won't work on a 1gen. The summitracing p# is bm46056.:thumb:

Mostly you'll gain torque due to the increased airflow. One can only speculate #'s, it is noticeable though.

I didnt think you needed to upgrade anything else if installing turbo cams hmm I know SuperGoat installed Turbo cams into his Nt before he went turbo and i dont think he upgraded his fuel system but i'm not sure

He eventually ran lean and bought an arospeed ;)

So you can use Turbo Cams out of any 91-94 TSi as long as it's a 5spd.? Why did people always tell me they should only be Turbo Cams from a 92 TSi? Is it because they have the most lift+duration,or is that all BS? Also,I read above it's recommended to use an AFPR.Is that an accurate suggestion? I'm looking into getting headwork done, along with ported intake mani to go along with the Turbo cams.is that a good setup>? Thanks guys!:dsm:

That sounds like an awesome setup RHINO, I do suggest however if porting the head and intake manifold to also do the exhaust manifold so everything is flowing freely. The 92 Turbo cams are the best year to get more lift and duration.

Thanks Mike1992,yea I forgot to mention along with the previously mentioned mods will be a header(or ported ex mani) back exhaust.I just bought a 94 TalonES for parts,so I was planning on using the motor mounts(to stiffen up),intake&exhaust mani's so I can do all the porting & polishing without having to let my car sit there without parts on it.Just a simple switch when Spring comes!

I also have a parts car I sold the head otherwise I would be porting it, but I will be porting the intake manifold soon. I have already installed a pacesetter header its been ported, polished, heat wrapped, and silicone sprayed, cuz dang that sucker heats up the engine bay ALOT!

just came from a engine builder and i asked about putting turbo cams in my non turbo and was told it will kill my performance by lowering my compression due to the changes in when the valve opens and when it closes -since the turbo cams hold the valve open a shade longer my compression would be lower ?............any one have any input on this theory?........please - i want to prove this guy wrong - just need to explain to him that his theory isnt true....thanks
