upgraded fuel pump noise,normal?

I've upgraded to the walbro 255. Normally it runs very quiet, I can't here it. Other times while its running it makes a VERY loud high pitched whine(?) type of sound.
Is this normal?

Walbro fuel pumps are notoriously loud, hence the nickname "Whinebro." I am not sure why you only hear it sometimes, but rest assured that the whining noise it makes is normal.

Yip, and it gets louder when you get fairly low on fuel.

You could try and use some of that dynomat underneath the seats..maybe that will quiet the damn whinebro down a little..

Ummmm... tell me why this would work when the pump is in the tank and the tank is just below the surface of the trunk area. Probably some dynomat in the trunk area would help. If it matters to you. You should hear mine with no rear interior. Before people can ask I usually say, "that noise is my fuel pump," and they usually say, "Jesus."

Now I wish I had a Supra pump, not because of the noise though. I'd just rather have the best in tank pump I can get. If the Walboro can't support 850cc/min injectors at 90% duty cycle (that's my dream, is to utilize those fu@kers to 90% capacity) at 75psi of fuel pressure I guess I'll just sump the tank and go inline.

So let this be a lesson to those wanting a fuel pump upgrade. The Walboro isn't the best and it's loud. But it's cheap I guess.

yeah.. i coulda sufficed with the whinebro but went with the Supra pump for my car.. more $$ but its nice and quiet

I have the Walbro 255 and I really dont hear it that often. I am also running 2.5" exhaust, no cat, and external dump.

come on guys, intimidation factor, i personally love any sound that comes from any high performance parts [except the bad ones that rent suppose to happen of course] high performance stuff makes girls wet, hehe. btw my walbro 255 doesnt make nearly as much noise as those older [like 95] style dodge caravans, ever hear those?

On the 2G the pump is right under the passenger rear seat, there is an access panel to change it. I just put a Walbro in saturday and I just have to say that it was so much nicer not having to drop the tank like in the 1G. Thats why he said to put dynomat under the seat.

Hehe I agree, well except for the part about making girls wet....Anyway I like how the Walbro sounds and if for some reason I don't want to listen to it I turn up the radio.

Why did you drop the tank on the 1g? Just pull it out the access panel! I prefer the ND pump that RRE sells. It doesn't need a FPR like the supra pump and is nice and quiet.
