well i just test fit the OBX manifold and there is minimal modification needed to fit. i will be running a 35r on hit and running it hard so i will keep updates on how long it takes before it cracks or if it even cracks at all. i will also have pics of of the clearances and minimal modification needed.

What kind of "minimal modification"s would that include? We already have seen pics of one mounted up and it hits the thermostat housing so either you are making a new thermostat housing (which I wouldn't call "minimal modification") or you are modding the manifold (which if OBX actually DID some R&D, you wouldn't have to mod it at all). IMO, just wait it out for a QUALITY tubular manifold to come out. Should be a couple more options out by this year I hear.

by minimal modification i mean dremeling some of the bolt hole surface on the thermostat housing and using a bolt with a thinner head. fits just fine took me 15 min to get just right. I have been really busy with customer cars, but i will have pics up by the end of the weekend.

Interesting... from what we've seen, much more modification is required. Maybe OBX changed their design a little. Please post pictures when you get a chance.

DO IT! DO IT NOW!!! lol

Seriously though I am thinking about buying one as I'm not a big fan of the log style ones they make and a top mounted mani just looks better in my opinion. Everyone is talking about the quality and what not I will tell you that I have dealt with all that first hand many times with my 4g63 xs power mani. My XS power manifold held up great and I ran it with a 65lb/min turbo too. To be honest the average 6-8psi 16g or small t3 t4 turbo you will run on a 420a car will not even make enough boost/heat to actually push the manifold to the point at which the quality of the mani starts to become a factor. Not to mention the design incorporates such short runners and not many bends there aren't many places that will have crazy amounts of stress on it to break or crack compared to that longer ram style or the 4g63 style.

Edit: By the way WHERE THE HELL ARE THESE THINGS!!! I'm looking all over ebay it's like they aren't even selling them anymore.

Are you sure about your heat statement? I have made my manifold turn cherry red from all the heat a couple times before and I have never run more than 8 psi.

Bottom line I have run the type of manifold talked about(actually the xs power is probably even lower quality then the obx) and I will tell you (from having a egt gauge and logging egt's on dsmlink on my 1g awd) that running a 14b or 16g at 1g stock boost(10-12psi) did not get things hot enough or flow enough to put this style manifold with obviously cheaper material at riskfor cracking. The two things that are notorious for causing the ebay manifolds to crack are extreme and quick heat cycling and high egts.(that was technical information )

I ran my stock car with 3" exhaust an 14b with a tubular at 20psi(got a little boost happy oops) and the thing took maybe 3 full hard runs to get cherry red.

Ok wait...are you talking about manifolds for your 4g, or for the 420a...let's not forget that tiny little factor that your uber 1g awd has a tad bit lower compression than the factory 2gnt is produced with. Higher compression ratios, plus boost, might just equal a glowing log style manifold

Thanks for your "technical information"

Also, not to belittle your post or anything...BUT when you speak of quality etc, what we're all referring to is the poor r&d into the 420a products. This including but not limited to, the lackluster fitment issues which lead to believe that these products were never actually even bolted onto a vehicle for test purposes. This all has nothing to do with anyone saying they have had them crack, heat warp, etc.

yeah I'm pretty sure that even your xs power tubular mainfold bolted up to the head with very little issues, and you didn't have something as obvoious as a thermostat housing in the way....which apparently obx completely overlooked.

x is right on the money with those last 2 posts, but hey if your looking to pick one, up, just go to the actual obx website, locate a dealer near you, and have them order one for you.

2gnt have higher compression then 1g awds NO WAY!
Lucky me that my statement holds true for both stock 7:8:1 1g's and 1g's with 9:0:1 JE pistons

Not to belittle your post but the quality of a product has little to do with fittment in my book. One guy said it took him 15 minutes to alter the manifold to make it fit. If it takes me 15 extra minutes to get a manifold that will outperform another then I think I can live with that.

Oh yeah and for the record the Xspower was a PITA to get to fit so obx are not the only people doing it. And I think you meant my 1g not 4g

Wow...calm down buddy.

If you weren't so eager to try and pwn me, you would notice the following: I was referring to manifolds for your 4g or a 420a, thus with any bit of deductive thinking, it would be obvious i was making reference to your "4g63" engine and not the fourth generation mitsubishi eclipse

Also..this guy has "claimed" to have taken a simple 15min of modifications...yet, where has he been since then, not a single post from what it seems. We simply all went from what we've seen in the past, which is that this manifold req's much more than "minor modification" to fit...and this guy has supposedly done otherwise, yet not provided anything for us to view and comprehend accordingly.

That's the one I'm talking about. I thought that was obvious when I was talkinga bout how short the runners are my bad. I also see your 4g63 reference just 4g63 guys don't refer to turbo engines like that it's just 6 bolt or 7 bolt if yoru a 93 or up guy sorry.

By the way not that I would go that route but why not just cut the ends of the housing off to make a "C" shap and bolt it down it would still hold just as good or you could(again not something I would do) slightly dent the manifold in just enough to clear the housing just a thought.
