I crested that hill in the background of the second pic there, right into stopped rush hour traffic, at about 40mph. I slammed on the brakes, but had no chance.

The "victim" left, turns out they had no insurance and expired license, so technically Im not at fault I guess, but even so, I dont have collision on it, so Ive gotta pay to get it fixed out of pocket.

Front bumper cracked in many places, intercooler pipes dented, radiator cracked I believe, fans pushed up against the turbo and downpipe, both headlights cracked and one foglight broken, and of course, the hood. No fuel or oil leaking, but I dont know the status on the vaccum lines or the a/c system yet.

I dont know what its going to cost to get this thing running again yet. I had it towed to a body shop Ive worked with before, and Im waiting for an estimate on it now.

Im not sure what Im going to do now.

Thats really ashame man, I hope you can get it all fixed up. The same thing happened to one of my friends a little over a year ago. He was coming up a hill and on the top there was a line of traffic waiting for a school bus to go. He hit the car going around 40-50mph but definatley had more damage than you did. I really hope everything turns out alright for you, the build was awesome, maybe when its done you'll be able to tune all the bugs out of it.

True, but he didn't get rear-ended, so I couldn't recommend a carbon fiber hatch.

Dude that's unfortunate, but I am sure it will be one bad-a@& force to be reckoned w/ when you get it back. Hope the bill doesn't burn a whole man. I hear ya though. I did the same thing...w/ a little different circumstances, but it was all out of pocket $$$$!!! Not cool.

I slid into someone last winter goin like 9mph and got a monstrous dent in my drivers door....haven't fixed it yet. It adds character and makes me more aerodynamically sound plus it adds to my whole sleeper look, goin along with the black rattle can bumper and hood

Well, got the estimate today. $4481.16. Thats a lot more than half the value of the car, so I have to explore my options now, of which it seems there are only two.

1.) Shell out the cash, and get my car fixed. I love that car.

2.) Cut my losses, take my turbo/n2o/exhaust/intercooler/etc., and go find myself a 1g gsx to put em on.

Cost should be about the same either way. This really sucks :-(

No! No! Please no!

Keep it! I would hate to see your car head off to some salvage yard, or at least someone else who wouldn't appreciate it as much.

I can't see all the damage obviously, but it sounded like all those were bolt on parts... So you need some new fans, headlights, hood, bumper, a foglight, a radiator, and maybe some new intercooler pipes.

You could get all that for under $800 if you shop smartly and look for used parts in good shape. Plus none of those are a real hassle to put on yourself. All you'd have to shell out the real dough for is frame straightening if it's needed, and paint.

Please don't sell your car! I really don't want to see it fall into someone else's hands. If I were around North Carolina, I'd help you fix it personally.

I really don't want to see the car go..But if the radiator and fans are broken, they obviously moved. Especially since he said they hit the turbo and downpipe..Which usually means frame damage..and from what I understand, is when the big bucks come into play..

I say fix it though haha..It was such a relief to see your thread when you made it, after hearing all talk about people turboing their cars, but never actually going through the process...KEEP THE CAR

Bah. I've worked for two different body shops, and in most cases, simple straightening like this is overrated. Unfortunately, it isn't something you can teach through a web forum; but I bet it could be accomplished on your car with a few common tools.

Damn body shops, do your homework and don't let anyone take you. Furthermore, do as much work by yourself as you can.

Wow haven't been in this thread for a while, just read the whole thing and all I can say is fix that baby up and you will be much happier in a 2g than a 1g. You might be able to get the same color fenders and hood from a junkyard. When my cracked my radiator on a curb I went to my junkyard and I got a good radiator, both fans, and all the screws and mounting brackets for 60$.

4500.00 in damage.....Best bet would be to find another red one like yours that needs a drivetrain and swap all your equipment into it.

Its sad to say but our cars are only worth about 5000 in great shape. The demand for them has gone way down with the minor detail that you can buy a turbo one for around 7000.

Sad to hear it

Thats what I had considered also. My dad told me to just get rid of it. But, after looking at the estimate, the guy's parts suppliers (both Satan and aftermarket) were really high compared to what I can find on ebay and in the junkyards. And then there's the labor.

So Im going to get them to replace the upper core support, hood, front bumper cover, and fender, no paint.

The headlights, foglights, radiator, fans, and any engine stuff (intercooler, piping, etc) is all going to be done by myself.

Then Ill take it back and have em paint it.

This way, I cant break up the costs some. Luckily I have another means of transportation, so I have time.
