alright guys, i've seen this term thrown around quite often and i was just wondering what this is and what it does performance wise? is it worth it to go through with? how much of a gain (if any) does this provide and how hard is it to perform the procedure? also if anybody feels like typing it out, let me know how to go about doing this and i'll most likely do it this weekend. thanks in advance for any insight and advice.

I think there's a VFAQ on it. Anyway, most guys just get rid of the airbox altogether and just clamp a K&N and MAF housing to the frame inside the engine bay somewhere. That way, its an open element filter.

www.vfaq.com go to intake. there'z a few diff examples of airbox/intake mods. I hacked mine to hell, clamped on a k&n and got a larger intake tubing. i have 3" aluminum with heat wrapping i got from a plumbing store for like 14 bucks..The gains are really noticable on my little 1.8, but they should be well over stock. Just watch out, if u hack off 2 much, u dont want all ur hot engine air going in2 your intake, that'll just cause a loss of hp.

Your best bet would be to just do a ram air set up by removing airbox, getting somekind of tubing and cutting a small hole above wheel well so u can setup a cold air/ram air setup. gL peace~

He has a 2gnt, the MAF isn't on the intake tube.

A lot of people try to cut holes ans stuff on the air box, but then later they still go with the cold air. Just save some time, and keep the stock box for when you sell it, and get the cold air. If you need one, i have one for $79. It gives a good feel of more power. It is worth it. Definitely go with the cold air, and not the normal intake that sits in the engine bay. Very hot air going into the motor. also, 2 g's are very easy to hook up an intake on. no MAF or anything. Just bolt on and go. Hope that helps.
