I think since i have a NT 92 2.0 Talon, i will be rebuilding the engine soon since it has 90,000 miles on it and go N/A the whole way. i was wondering if any of you other dsm'ers out there have bored out your engine at all? i saw on a website you could buy pistons .020 over. do you think that boring the engine out would possibly crack the block? also, are there ways to get higher compresson for more hp?

it is recommended that you bore the cylinders .020 over whenever doing any rebuild so that you know that the cylinders are going to be in perfect condition (ie getting out any scratches etc that are on the cylinder walls)

Alright, first off I want to ask you why you are rebuilding your engine at 90,000 miles. THat usually should not be done until your engine is either eating 4 quarts of oil, or burning water. Also if you see your gas mileage plumiting, then you do a rebuild. This engine does not need to be rebuilt at 90k unless someone didn't change the oil in it for half its life. This engine probably could go another 50k without needing a rebuild.

As for rebuilds, I only believe rebuilding an engine for education, but if this is not a project of yours save some time and buy a japanese exchange. They are cheaper in the long run, and save you lots of time rebuilding. My friend broke his engine, had 8 valves in the cylinders, and 8 bent. He bought a Japanese exchange with a new timing belt and balance shaft belt, got this all for 855. He put it together in 1 day and put it in with 2, and that was it. It started, ran, and it is still running great up to this day. Took him 2 weeks to be down. I am still rebuilding my engine, its been down for 2 months. I have spent 100 more dollars then him on it, and still have problem solving things I have to do. This is not an easy task, so I would go with a Japanese exchange unless you can have your car down.

Also rebuilds should be for performance also, if you plan to go turbo, if your staying NT, save yourself some time, buy a japanese exchange.

Shawn.

Alright, a Japanese exchange is one of our engines at Japan. Japan has STRICT emissions, so every 25-40K Miles, they exchange there motors for brand new ones. So after they do that, they send there motors to the US so we can use them. Bad thing is they don't come with the manifolds, or anything like that, they come with just the normal crap, oil pan, block, pistons, rods, crank, head, cams valves, valve cover, its all together, it just has no pulleys, old timing belt, balance shaft belt so you want new of those. So you just have to put on what you have on your engine it doesn't have, then you just put it in, plug your stuff back on, and your done.

You want to do your clutch and crap while your there by the way, since you have to take off your transmission from your engine ;)
