2g turbo on a 1g 1.8? Will it work

Ok, first off my car is a plymouth laser 1.8 SOHC and I WANT me some speed, i got to thinking and figured i cant afford a new turbo SO could a 2nd Gen turbo fit on a 1st gen laser? My car has a rebulit engine it was rebuilt at 88,000 and now it has 136,200 on it, is this a wise idea? Should i have the Rods, Cam, Pistons, valves checked? Me and my dad did a compression test to see if what the compression on my valves was the 3rd seemed alittle low, my i remind you that is this a REBULIT engine, my friend said he took good car of it, and i have done a pretty good job. On the exhaust side, would i have to get a differnt manifold, like headers? Can you get them for a 1.8? Will i have to get a new oil pan like a larger one? Should i get a cool air intake for the engine?

now back to my orginal comment, will a talon/eclipse 2nd gen turbo fit into my 1.8 engine bay? How reilible is a used turbo? Can i get the turbo checked somehow to make sure its in good condition?

Well thanks People

and i forgot to mention,

How much does it cost for turbo installation or could i do it?
if i do this, how much PSI should i push on this 1.8 liter with good, rods, pistions, valves, exhaust, cam, and cool air? my guess would be 12- 15 or so?

thanks

Is it possible to turbo the 1.8? Yes, of course it is. That isn't the hardest thing to do, it is how to do it.

Alright, before I tell you how to do it, I want to say, try to keep a exhaust manifold around because I am doing the same thing. It kind of takes more then you would think and as for your engine, you'll have to take off your head if you want to run good ammounts of boost.

For one, your going to need a steel head gasket, about 2mm. You can also use two head gaskets, which will even lower your compression lower than a 2mm gasket. Then you will be able to run good ammounts of psi, like 15 or so.

As for a turbo, I wouldn't do a T-25, let's get a good upgrade, as like a 14B, or even bigger. The guy on here that already turboed his car has a T3/T4. I want to run Big16G, so that is what I will do, but whatever you want to do is fine.

For an exhaust manifold, you can find one that fits your engine, it comes off the mid 80's Dodge Colt, or Mitsubishi Mirage, this engine is called:4G32. It fits, but you will need an adapter plate to be fabricated[made] for your manifold

If you run a big turbo, you will need a front mount intercooler, Ebay.com is a good place to find one cheap. Piping you will need also, I advise you to get some aftermarket piping so you can keep increasing your horsepower.

Oil cooler will have to be put into your car, you can find one at the junkyard on a Turbo Eclipse/Talon/Laser.

For an oil intake for the turbo, where your preasure monitor is on where you put your Oil Filter, you can place a L valve on there, so you can still get preasure, and have oil coming to your turbo [I will show pics after I do it]. As for your oil return, just place a tit on the oil pan, weld it on and have a hole ofcourse before you weld the tit on, then you can just put a hose onto the tit, and the oil will return to the oil pan.

As for your fuel, you will need aftermarket fuel regulator, so that it will regulate the fuel when you are boosting. This will have to be mechanical unlike the 4G63 which electronicly does it.

Just install a boost gauge and other things to make sure your running alright.

Boost controller would be good too to control your boost levels.

If you run too high of psi, you will run into fuel cutt. You would have to get a faster fuel pump, 450CC injectors[or higher], and a AFC.

If you have any more questions, be free to Private Message me, or the guy on here that has done the 1.8 turbo already. Thanks.

Shawn.

I looked down this road for quite awhile and decided to just get a turbo car, there is a ton of stuff you'd need.

If you really want to do it though, I suggest you read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. It is an awesome book and will give you all of the insight you need in to actually making the project successful, it can be found at the link below.... Good luck!
