Hi,

I have a couple of Q's for all you DSm tuners.Well about a month ago I purchased my first car a 1998 eclipse GS with an auto trans! My Q's are, well first is it even possible to get an eclipse GS into the 13-12 second end times with out a motor swap,Iwant to keep my auto trans also.So if it is what mods should I start saving for?My other q's are what is the best cat-back exhaust for my eclipse,I want an exhaust thatwome of any horsepower or torq, but also has an agressive sound to it(not a farting sound to it)? My last question is can down pipes bolt on to your cat back and are they a good investment?Your info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan

P.S.
I'm sorry if these q's have been asked before or if they sound stupid ,but I'm only 17 and I want my car to be done right in terms of modifications.

Yes you can get it to the 12-13 whit an automatic save up for a turbo.
No you can not put a down pipe on your car you dont have astock turbo on your car like a gst or gsx which have the 4g63 motor if you go turbo the kit will come with a down pipe made for the turbo kit for an exhaust if you plan on rebuilding your motor to run higher boost and be faster go with a exhaust made for a gst it will fit it will also be a 3.0 in diameter insted of a 2.5 and bigger is better for a turbo but not if you stay all motor as for what type that deponds on if you go turbo or not. But I say turbo.

what do you have to do besides a stage 2 for a auto to reach 12-23 sec 1/4 mile times. Also does anyone on this site have a auto with a turbo kit on their 420a.

To run 12-13 1/4 times with an auto tranny, you're in for a bit of work.

1- Cat back exhaust ($200-600). Critical to achieve higher boost levels later.

2- Stage 2 Turbo Kit...($2800-3200) I like star, some like HRC. Both will put you 8-10 psi, and around 260-280 at the crank. Comes with fuel regulator and other needed accessories. BUY THE PREPACKAGED DEAL, finding a kit piece by piece is a pain in the arse.

** Be sure that the turbo kit comes with front mount intercooler.

3- Shift kit for the tranny ($18, but a bit of a task to install), for harder, faster shifts. I recommend a tranny cooler as well.

4- Most of your N/A mods (except headers and intake) will help. Cams, Cam gears ($250ish) , S-AFC (for fuel tuning)($300ish) , and a UDP ($150) will definitley help.

5- FINAL DRIVE MOD (anywhere from 0-$120). This helps autos a LOT.

6- Ok .. at this point, you should be close. If you get the car tuned properly, you should be putting out around the 280 mark at the wheels, if not more.

7- If you're still not getting it, try a high stall torque converter. This will help get you off the line quicker.

8- If you're going to use nitrous, limit yourself to a 50 shot. This is the #1 way to blow yourself up. And be sure you're getting enough fuel whenever you hit that button, or you'll be shooting out your melted pistons and headers through the back end.

A long road awaits you, but it is possible to have a 13 second grocery-getter. Good luck. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH.

Oh, and on the exhaust thing.

You have a DSM, so, no matter what you end up with, you will NOT have that wretched pissed off bumblebee noise. However, each exhaust sounds different, so ask around.
