I thought I would update you guys on the progress for those of you who dont check my cardomain site (that would be all of you).

There were a couple snags and the motor is still out of the car.

(1st) ACT sent me the wrong clutch disk (they sent a protege disk, what an insult) so I am waiting for the new disk before the installation can be completed.

(2nd) Yesterday a freind was wanting to see the inside of the runners on the intake manifold so he went to open the throttle body and low and behold... it wouldnt open. The clasp that attaches to the cable is hitting on a weld on the manifold. We expect that about 20 minutes with a dremel will be able to shave it adequatly for the throttle body to open and shut without binding.

(3rd) Today I went up to Transonic to try and install a turbo fuel pump into my car. Guess what? The fuel pump isnt in the trunk, or under the seats. ITS IN THE TANK! So the tank would have to be dropped to replace the pump. I'm assuming this would require removal of the rear suspension (at least partially), exhaust and etc. So I have to decide what to do for upgrading my pump. It needs to be done, but I dont know how we are going to do it. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

(4th) The manifold has no mounting brackets for the coil pack, so we have to make one custom. This was allmost expected though, and isnt a big deal.

And now what you were all waiting for. PICTURES!

Pretty self explanitory. It looks sooooooo nice with the spark plug cover on! The engine w/o the valve cover is the old engine. I think I will be able to salvage the head for a core to get ported and polished.

I'll keep you updated. Needless to say there is a fair amount of anticipation around Omaha for this car to be completed. Everyone is wanting to see how "quick" (or to the turbo guys reading this, "slow") it is. A couple GSR's are all ready lining up to beat me (I am fairly sure I will lose.) But no bench racing, so enjoy the pics, and I will keep you updated!

The fuel pump is inside the tank, but it is to the rear and bottom of the tank. My driveway kind of has a hump at the bottom and if I put my rear tires on the hump, I don't even have to jack up the car to get to it. You can remove the pump easily without removing the gas tank. Here's a vfaq to installing a walbro fuel pump on a 1g FWD. It should give you an idea of what's involved. The fuel pump setup on a 1G FWD n/a is identical to a turbo one. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/5051/pump.htm

Good luck

Dude.... You rock! It had everyone stumped b/c they usually work on AWD's and their head DSM guy is in england visiting mommy. Looks like i'm heading over tommorow to give it another wack at it.

I would also like to say that I rode in a AWD turbo for the first time today, and I must admit it is both tempting, fun, and impressive. But I want my all-motor still! I will wait for the turbo 4G63 in the Evo whenever I get it. (years to come... )

No problem, I'll be doing the same job next weekend. LOL Where did you get that intake manifold btw?

I got it for 365.00 shipped off a the classified section of this web site. It was quite a find. Used is definatly the way to go. No sense spending twice as much for basically the same thing.

I wouldnt go out and splurge on a intake manifold just yet though. Lets wait and see how much low end power I lose. I'm guessing that it will be fairly substantial.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Those runners are pretty short. The sad thing is that all of this that folks are doing with the n/a 4g63 is fairly experimental. I'm not aware of a lot of folks that take the effort to see how much power can be produced from a n/a 1g DSM. Good luck, and keep us all updated. :)
