Problem after installing BOV and Upper Intercooler Piping on 2G

Ok, I have a 97 Spyder GS-T. Recently I put on an Apexi downpipe and N1 Exhaust. Then, today, I installed the APexi upper intercooler piping kit and twin chamber blow off valve. After the install, everything worked good for like 20 minutes, then after driving, something started to go wrong. Right off the line everything would be fine, as RPMs increased, so did the boost on the boost guage. It keeps increasing untill it gets all the way to the top, where it stays, a moment or two before it reaches the top, it feels as if the turbo isn't producing power. At some points, it seems as if the car will stall. Keep in mind, before the install, everything worked fine. The guy at the shop said it could be some sort of leak in the piping, after checking the clamps and stuff, everything was tight. The only thing I can think of is this....the new pipe that connects to the intercooler itself, is bigger then the pipe coming off the intercooler. There is such a difference that the pipe from the intercooler can fit completely inside the new pipe. I did connect it though, and there is the silicone hose and clamps on both pipes, and they are as tight as possible. This is the only thing I can think of. Unless it has something to do with the fact that the BOV vents to the atmosphere, unlike the original, and I need an AFC. If you have ideas please post or e-mail me. [email protected]

Boost leak. Check all your connections and make sure everything is tight. I know you said everything is tight but check it all again sounds just like a boost leak. Make sure the BOV is tightened down good ETC
 
Yeah, but I was wondering if anyone else had leakage problems specifically where the new piping meets the stock intercooler?
 
yes you are correct, it's because it vents to the atmosphere. I had an apexi bov before and recently changed to a 1g bov.. it is so much easier to drive now and no more bucking when i go partial throttle ;)
 
After tightening all the clamps and driving the car again, the problem is worse. It deffinetely isn't the fact that the BOV vents to the atmosphere, because the car is practically undriveable. WHen I get on the gas, it almost seems as if the engine is misfiring, it bogged down, and a couple of times stalled. Then it couldn't hold an idle. I'm guessing something with the MAS air sensor or some crap got hanked up, but I have no idea how.
 
did you reconnect the sensor when you put everything back together? What about the Lower IC piping...maybe you didn't do anything to it but I could still be loose...I also think this sounds just like a boost leak...just make sure every connection from the turbo to the throtle body is completely sealed an tight...maybe even have somebody rev the engine in neutral while you check...it won't build boost but it will get to 0psi and 0vac....and it makes the stock pipes get bigger so I guess its worth a try...
 
Did you plug the hole where the bypass is suposed to go after tha mass. cause if your car is getting more air than it thinks its getting it could throw everything out of wack. also check your vacume lines. if the one to the map is lose it could cause a problem. and make sure the shop eiter didnt knock any thing lose or cross any conections or vacume lines.

Where is your blowoff set on the BOV? What boost gauge, what level are you running? What shop?
 
As far as what the BOV is set to, the screw and nut on top of the BOV are flush, and that is the only setting I know of. I put it on myself, and I don't have a boost controller. The MAF as well ass all other plugs are plugged in, and the hoole that they tell you to plug in the instructions is plugged up. The thing with that is, the cap they give you to cover that hole was to big and that kept slipping off, so I wrapped it in electrical tape and then put the cap on it. Do you think just that could be doing this. I mean, its not just running a little strange, its really bad. Now one more question for anybody who uses the Apexi BOV. The kit came with extra vaccum hose, and a three way nipple. After calling the shop that I deal with, East Coast Motorsports, awsome place, they told me that I do not need to hook up this three way, all I need to do is plug the hose that was plugged into the original BOV into the new one. Could this have anything to do with it? Anymore help is greatly appreciated, thanx for all the responses so far.
 
Also, the levels on the stock boost guage (I know stock guage sucks) goes all the way to the top, almost passed the +.

No aftermarket boost gauge = FUCT! Get one mega quick so you can see how much boost you are actually pushing... The stock is just a calculated estimate.

I definitely agree. When I had my N1 DP and catback put on my boost was spiking all the way up to 19psi OMG

I already had a boost gauge and egt gauge, uicp, and turboxs bov at the time and I immediately ordered a hallman mbc. As a temp fix I put a vacuum hose from the compressor nipple to the wastegate nipple, meaning I was running a max of ~13psi. Good luck!
