No doubt the best radar dectector is ones eyes, but after reading an artice in one of my Popular Mechanics maginzines I came to the conclusion I should get an electronic radar detector. Only problem is there are so freakin many of them on the market!

Anyone here have a radar detector that they would recomend? Preferably one that also detects laser as well? Cops in Idaho love nothing more that to set speed traps that you can't always see in time.

I believe the 2 best are the valentine and the escort something I can't think of the model number right now.

if I remember correctly (which I do, just checked on it), the valentine one was the "first" radar detector on the market, so they've had the longest experience. I read up on this a while ago, did some research.

The new valentine detectors have the "stealth", because other detectors can be counter-detected, because everybody copied the original valentine design (I think it was valentine, correct me if I'm wrong), but they have a new design that doesn't emit the same EMI, so are effectively "stealth" to the detector-detectors.

They're also very very good designs, though expensive, worth it.

Definitely larry. Here in Cali the friggin cops are straight mean with speed traps. Fortunately, they haven't outlawed detectors here, yet. I've heard many a magazine rave about the Valentine. The only complaint was price and bulkiness. If they came out with a new model they might have the bulkiness under control. Some magazine about two-four months ago did a small comparo of top end detectors (can't remember which one). They concluded that nothing beat their old Valentine, and it was an older model vs everyone elses new ones.
