[RESOLVED] Thread and Sizing of Oil Port? (BSP) [Merged 1-8]

There is a bolt on the front of the head that can be used as an oil source, I need to know what size fitting and thread I would use for this. Im getting my oil supply off the side of the head right now but I want to hook up an oil pressure gauge in the engine bay off the front of the head to verify oil pressure at that point. Can anyone tell me the size/thread?

It's 1/8 british pipe thread.

Wait, I'm second guessing myself now. It may be a metric like M10x1 or something.

What is british pipe thread? Well I ordered an autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge and it says it comes with

"Includes 1/8" and 1/4" NPT fittings along with 6 ft. nylon tubing."

I guess Ill see if it fits when I get it here

1/8th NPT is very close to the M10x1.0 that's used in a variety of places around the DSM. However, from memory the port (I think it's actually just a plug related to the boring process, but threaded in) looks to be more like M6 or M8. At any rate, it's going to be metric; you'll probably want to drill and tap the hole or hunt down a suitable banjo setup.

How exactly do I check thread? I guess I could take the bolt to the local hardware store and see if I can find something to thread onto it.

Quick question but I couldnt figure out what to search to find it.

Does anybody know what size/pitch the holes for sensors in the thermostat housing are? I want to get some of those nice allen head plugs to fill in the extra holes from having a 6bolt housing on my 2g. I'm also thinking I can pull the tube and drill and tap the hole for the turbo coolant feed since I dont have any waterlines hooked up.

Depends which one's. Would need a picture to see which one's you are plugging.

I suspect they'll be British Standard Pipe, or a similar self-sealing tapered thread. Most Japanese sensors use that thread. Look to Earl's, Russel and the like for adapters.

Defiant is correct. They will be 1/8th, 3/8ths, etc pipe threads, but they will be BSP, not NPT. Determine the diameter the same way you would if you were looking for NPT parts. In fact NPT parts will usually go in a few threads, so if you have NPT stuff around it's easy to test fit. The different between NPT (27 threads/inch) and BSP (28 threads/inch) is one thread, IIRC. I find that www.mcmaster.com usually has a great selection of plugs and other parts in BSP sizes, and they are cheap.

You have your terms for describing the thread a bit messed up and this will kill your search.

B.S.P. = British Straight Pipe

For me, I found it easier just to chase the BSP thread with an NPT tap.

+1 If possible just tap it up to the next NPT size which in your case seems to be the thread you need to have anyway. I remember hating having to track down brittish standard bolts on some older brit bikes i've worked on.

Whats up fellas?! I got a question to ask of you all. I just bought a forward racing oil filter bracket for the seven bolt. And here is the dilemma. On the old filther bracket, there are like 3 or 4 port used or bolted up. Like the oil pressure sending unit, or the oil pressure sensor switch. Another on unused, and the 3/8 one used for feeding the snail. Now I was assuming that the smaller port were 1/8 npt, but I took a brass fitting that is going to be used to mount the fuel pressure gauge on my aeromotive FPR, which is 1/8 npt, and tried to screw it in. It didn't fit... so I was like damn, what the hell is it. I'm assuming metric, but unsure, and I cannot find anywhere what the thread and pitch are for the sensor and sending unit. I'm trying to install a t or street brass fitting for the sensor and sending unit. Let me know if you guys know anything, thanks!
