Speed Limiter

Hey
i am just wondering whats the asiest and cheapest way to turn of the speed limiter. Do i have to pay $300+ to just turn that off?

I don't know why your so interested in going over 130mph, but there is a VFAQ on it that tells you everything you need to know to take it out.

On a fairly related topic, please explain, someone. My 97GS-T has hit 148mph (I'm dumb, on highway, at night, racing a Ducati, he had nitrous, I still won). Theorhetically, it was limited to 130. My 95GS-X can't go over 125mph with a tailwind and my wife pushing. Why??? Shouldn't this have been the other way around? I didn't swap the computers, the GS-X actually has more "go-fast-goodies" than my GS-T did... I don't get it.

the gearing on the GSX will allow more top end speed but the car weighs 200lbs more and loses more power through the drivetrain so it would have to be alot more powerful then the GST to go as fast

I just didn't expect it to be so drastic a difference. I'm looking at getting TRE's rebuilt/regeared tranny now.

Wow that's odd that you reached 148 mph on your GST cause I was racing a BMW 330Ci on the freeway and my car bogged when I reached 137 mph. I probably wouldn't go that fast again because it freakin scary specially with a convertable!!!

I was wild but scary at the same time. There was no doubt that he got the jump on me. I mean come on, a bike with NOS, nothing can accelerate like that. His bottle maxed out about 130mph then we hit corners and some light traffic. It was the first high speed run on the suspension (Illuminas and Sportlines) so I wasn't sure if it would hold. Turned out that it cornered like rails. My buddy in the passenger seat was wired for about three weeks. Everytime we were hanging out with car meets he would go bragging about that run. I realized afterwards I hadn't even switched my boost controller over to the high boost setting. I did it all on 18psi. My high boost was set to 25psi (and yes I ran it a few times on pump gas, and nothing went wrong until I tried 32psi by accident). I would have to be scared of how fast that car could be at 25-28psi. I have never pushed it like that again. I don't know if I'm scared or what. It was a blast, and a great memory. Do I regret it? No. Will I do it again? Maybe if I'm challenged like that again.

Thats strange about your 95 GSX, even stock my All Wheel TSI pushed through 125 mph rather easily.
Your right that doesn't sound right at all.

More like balls of stupidity. It didn't even occur to me that I could have died. Or killed anyone else. I just wanted to win. I had been street racing earlier in the night, won a few races, and thought I was invincible. The part that probably made me through all safety to the wind was when I went to shift down he was watching my arm. He immediately bent over and hit a silver button inside the left fairing. When he got ahead of me (as expected) I saw a small silver bottle tucked very cleanly inside. I was livid. So I wasn't about to give up. Like I said though. Balls of stupidity. It wasn't safe, it wasn't legal. I almost regret it. But dam, it was fun.

The part that makes it really weird is that Mitsu knew it could break 130 or they wouldn't have put Z tires on it from the factory. That's why the FWD came with H's. It doesn't track as well at high speed. So why, with all the mods I've done, can't this dang car go even as fast as it did stock? Someday I'll find a AWD dyno down here get it tuned up right. I'm either getting a Haltech E12K (yes, it will be out soon, they keep telling me) or the DSMLink. That should fix things (I hope).

Hello, I actually noticed an identical problem on my '95 gsx. Granted, its completely stock under the hood, but I was expecting somewhere over 120mph, which is where I maxed out (it was on an old abandoned runway that the field dusters around here used to use.... 4 miles completely straight and level with no traffic). Its also got about 100K miles on it, so I'm sure its got some wear and tear to it. I guess I'll have to see what it does after I do the compression tests and mpcc cleaner. I also couldn't get it to go over 5,200 rpm, is this because this is where I make my peak horsepower, or am I really really needing a tune up?

Wow, I'm surprised you guys with the GSX's have problems getting over 125. In a real stupid move when I was 17 I decided to show my friend my car's guts at 3 am in the morning on a major highway. I was able to get my GSX stock up to 160. Never again will I do that. I thought after I did it what if my tire blew? Maybe there is some difference from the 95-96 than the 97-99 GSX's.

IF there is, it has to be in the computer. My 95GSX is running on the same engine as my 97GST did. When I swapped the parts over we decided to take the whole engine since the compression was higher on it than on the 95GSX engine. So I figure it has to be something electronic.

On average, most readings you get are about 10% out either way (Usually saying you are going faster), and that will give you almost 130mph.

136 three times last night. my car consistanly shuts down at 136 mph. i would like to know how you guys in the gst go faster than that... not that i need to. the reason i was doin this last night i lost my license for 30 days so it was my last night to play for thirty days. looks like i havent learnd my lesson. oh well. maybe i need a chick to slow me down.

The GSTs are supposed to be limited around 130mph. Mine might have, maybe not. Doesn't seem that way.
