medicine hat,
i got behind an awsome looking talon that was all decked out with a big spoiler, carbon fiber hood and "dual exhaust" which is weird but anyways i wanted to know if i was behind him with my windows down, would i be able to hear if he had a turbo or not?...when he took off all i heard was his exhaust...if there was a turbo would i have heard it??????

yeah i'd say you could hear it spooling, mabye not if you were behind it though cus then the exhaust would drown it out, but if you were along side you should be able to hear a hissing noise, hear anything different when he shifts?

nah the car sounded the exact same as mine except with a louder exhaust....i wasnt exactly behind it...i was behind a car that was beside it so i could see the side of the car good(i nvr seen any decals or nothin like that just the talon symbol by the brake lights) but all i still heard was the little bit louder exhaust..its probably a non turbo maybe sometime we'll race and i'll find out for sure but i dunno...anyoe else think i should have heard it spooling from there?

a car as nice as nice as you describe would probably have a big turbo if it had any at all. obviously it didn't have a stock turbo or you would have seen the tsi badge, and nobody puts SMALL aftermarket turbos in their car, so i'd put money on the fact that if you didn't hear the airy sound of his turbo spooling, then it wasn't there.

but then again, how hard did he rev it up? if he didn't rev up past 4 or so then the turbo probly wasn't spooling up enough yet for you to be able to hear it.

just something to think about...

All 4G63s have the same sound untill the turbo spools, then the sound gets little more high pitched then the NT. So listen for that, if you can't hear a turbo spool, but the exhuast starts out very low pitched and only gets louder and little higher pitched, it is a NT, if the engine starts the wine high pitched, at least higher then a NT, it is a turbo. The reason is the faster gases move the higher the pitch created and a turbo pushes alot more exhuast out. Put before the turbo spools it is the same as the NT.

Next time pull up next to him and rev on him. If he takes off and leaves you like there's no tomorrow, he is probably turboed. Or better yet, when you get to a light ask him. :)
