Is there a huge difference in the capabilities between the orginal Apexi AFC ( I think the 1st version)

or the Second Version

My plans are to be mid to low 13's.. Using a T-28 with a 190lph Fuel Pump and 550 injectors.

Will I be able to properly tune the car with the older version? And if so, how hard would it be as compared to the new version?

It seems to me, that the new version is about $300 worth of GUI's (Graphical User Interfaces) as opposed to $100 worth of the same thing without the graphics.

This is surprising, I haven't gotten an answer to this question. Thought I would bring it back up to the top of the list.

If anybody has a link that shows the newer version capabilites vs the older version capabilities, this will work too..

Well you rright. Basically it shows more info and is capable of more detailed settings. It has 8 user points where specific corretions are put in from -50 to +50. Im no tto sure about the old style but I know that they only have like 4or6 predetermined static throttle points that cant be adjusted nearly as much as in the newer style. beleive me, Im not one for "bling" or spending extra money when something else will do.... but the amount of poeple with the new style afc's and the amount of knowledge to help tune with them is indefinet. Its prolly the most widely used piggy-back tuning device among all kinds of imports. Plus you can just look arounf for a used one for like 240$ or so, its not like anything goes wrong with em :thumb:

Get the new style AFC. I won't get into the differeces but it's just better.

That's why they came out with a new one :D

I think the best feature of the new afc is hi and low throttle settings. With the old SAFC your stuck trying to balance between performance and driveability, while the new safc you can tune for both and vary between the maps. Also have more tuning points is very useful and important. I really hate the old one, although it will do its job...

Well, I think I am sold.. I will get the newest version. I can't seem to find any real information regarding the old type, so I will at least be better off support wise.

Y'all haven't been around DSM's long enough to know about the old ones.

If you're just doing basic mods, I don't see why the old version isn't good.

You can find it online used for like $100.

True it won't run AS smooth mid throttle as a new style, but its a difference most people can't see.

5 knobs, each going from -30/+30 %fuel% adjustment.

I like it better than the new version for one reason, it's real easy to twist a knob when going 140mph to add a little fuel to prevent too much knock, but it's hard to fumble with buttons :).

According to some local experienced tuners. They all agree that the old style is actually a better unit, the reason why... I don't know. I have the old style and my car drives just as smooth at low trottle. The new AFC is better in theory because it has more rpm points plus the low trottle settings. The old style it's just 800, 2400, 4200, 5600 and 7200. + or - 30% the new afc goes to 50%.

the old one works fine. Some one I know runs 550cc and the old style he runs 12's all day long on pump gas w/16g.

this is on a 95 2G

Personally, I go with the Blue screen S-AFC. It has the graphical mode that you can use to check if you have MAS overrun (1G MAS mostly) that you cannot see with a logger. Also, you can tell what is the max hz, rpm, throttle position, etc with a press of a button.

When I misshift at the track, I pressed the button and my highest rpm point was at 9,860rpm OMG

Yeah that happened to me driving my wife's '97 that has a '95 ecu with tmo mods. Mis shifted sec and the peak rpm's on the AFC was past 9 grand!! OMG

This probably isnt the correct thread, but i'll ask anyways. I heard that the new s-afc can only handle so much h.p then you have to switch to a standalone. Does anyone know how much it is capable of 400-500h.p?
