Timing belt super tight.. worried..

recently me and some friends completed a 1g head swap on to my 2G, we replaced all the belts with new factory satan belts, including the timing belt.

there is a LOUD whine that gets higher pitched with throttle coming from the timing belt, and it is SUPER tight.. i.e. there is no give between the cam sprockets if you mash on it...

one of my friends tells me this is normal.. the rest (and everyone else) says its too tight..

what im really worried about is it ruining my oil pump pully bearings, or virtually anything its touching, at high RPMs i dont want to even imagine the stresses that belt is putting on my stuff...

Yes it is way!!! to tight. I would carefully go over how the timing belt install went. There are some tricky parts to installing a timing belt correctly in these engines. The whining is the sound of your bearings on the tensioners your belt is rolling on. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND ON IT UNTIL IT IS FIXED!!! You may be replacing more than your belt if something goes wrong. When you reinstall be sure there is no play on everything that that timing belt rolls over. Good luck!

Yep, Oil pump failure will occur if you do not remedy that!

Does your whine go away after driving for a few minutes or does it stay? I'm curious because i have the same problem. I just had the BR damper pulleys installed with new belts and tensioner, and ever since i got them installed i would get a really bad whine when i accelarate, but would leave after 10 minutes or so of driving. Also you can hear the belts act up at idle but that goes away by itself after a minute or so. If anyway can tell me what this is i would appreciate it.

Yeah, watch out for those belts. My neighbor had his replaced and the guy tightened them too much. They got about 10 miles down the road on a test run and it snapped. The garage had to pay to put a whole new head in, but the car was down for like three months.
