Well i am new to the whole DSM game, have owned a civic and is300 prior to my eclipse, i have a basic knowledge of cars/terms/parts. The background on my car is on the day of purchase after the test drive i got it out on the road and tried to see what it really had ( i would have felt gulity about it with the previous owner in it) well BAM check engine lit as soon as i start having fun. i called the guy back saying what happened he had already left (fled) the area that we were in. i told him i would drive it home find out what happend and call him back. Turned out to be the spark plug wires, no biggie. i think that i may just be going trough the normal DSMer's life with tuning but maybe not. Shifting has been hard 2 months after purchase, sticky pedal/grinding/different engauge heights. (i changed the fluid in the gearbox) but am just now reading of synchomesh. then today i just read about crankwalk, it is scaring the hell out of me. i have been having problems with idle after a turbo xs rfl bov, then found out i need to recirulate it so i switched to a turbo xs h34, which fixed my idle surge problem, had problem with boost leaks-tightened everything down good-fixed it. had a problem with valve cover leaking-(probaby was not tight enough) but i changed the gasket any way then cracked the cover making sure it was tight.(not a huge crack) then the idle surge came back. headlight has been out for a month (not the bulb) must be the wiring. so what i am looking for is some help i mean hands on stuff anyone need a new friend i am Newport RI 25 years old in the navy and willing to drive to learn. I dont have a ton of money to throw at this car, at least some every paycheck i get. i want to learn about my car, but sometimes i cant read a thread and fully understand it. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WILLING TO LEND ME A HAND/BRAIN TAKE ME UNDER THEIR WING AND SHOW ME WHAT DSM TUNING IS ALL ABOUT?

Thanx for any help.

Mike

Im pretty decent with DSMs just started really...June of 2005. I know a good amount about them, there are quite a few people in your area that Im sure are very willing to help a fellow DSMer. Check out www.fycracing.com all NE people not just DSMs either. best thing you could do is just spend time with your DSM and get to know the engine, and what not.
EDIT*** Oh yeah if you wanna talk DSMs shoot me an IM on AIM, my SN is on all the time, same as my name on here. Oh yeah and dont worry too much about crankwalk...its rarely ever seen in 2Gs that arnt modded like hell, mostly high HP 7bolts are the ones to crankwalk on you...and a fix for this is to do a 6bolt swap. Most people that want high HP or no chance of crank walk do this. Oh yeah and if I were you I would have pushed the car with the owner in it, just to make sure it didnt over heat or, any lights like the check engine light come on. Have fun with you DSM hope you treat her well, cause she'll treat you well.
