4th gear

It could be many things. You will not know exaclty what you need until you pop the tranny apart.

But, this will give you a worst case scanario of a parts list.

4 gear synchro/hub/slider possible bent shift rail(would indicate a couple other things) could be a broken shift fork(they break in a few different places from my experience).

First thing would be to drop the transmission and crack it open if you feel so inclined. Otherwise, take it out and take it to a reputable local, or send it out to shep/tre.

Best of luck.

you could actually have a broken rail or fork and still have normal drivability? thats crazy. I read a few places on the forumn that your tranny goes out 4th gear first, but in my case it is odd because it feels like its not going all the way in. was going to get it built but not trying to get it done soon though. My pedal also engauges in different spots all the time depending upon how I treat it do think that has anything to do with it?

I have broken the 3/4 fork and got the transmission stuck in 3rd gear. It was enough to get me home.

I thought my 1/2 synchros were taking a dump on me and it turned out that the shift fork for the 1/2 setup was broken. One side of the fork had about 3/4 of an inch missing but the otherside of the fork was still playing the role of shifting along with the center of the fork where the rail goes through....So yes you can still have drivability, but I wouldn't call it normal.

If the part that broke is aluminum, it can and will get lodged inbetween the gears and grind away (steel>cast aluminum) and/or you will crack or fracture gear teeth.

It's possible that the end nut(s) might be loose, that is easy to check on your own. Here is the vfaq on it. http://www.geocities.com/qwik93awd/Vfaq/shifter.htm

This issue is what got me deep into fixing transmissions ;) Its been almost 2 years since it happened, and I am actually happy it did; I've learned so much about 1G transmissions since then. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103908

Anybody out there ever use a rebuild kit from drivetrain.com? Results?

www.capitolmitsubishi.com has a nice online setup for any mitsu so you can check out parts, part numbers, and a general price range of the parts.

- Go to parts / parts counter express and put in your info and it will give you individual part numbers for stuff.

I haven't found a mitsu part number for a complete synchro setup yet, and they do differ from year to year so even if one is found, spec's on what year transmissions they work on are necessary.

Oh here is the direct link for the parts/caps look alike program.
