Finally finished my turbo setup on my 420a :) I'm pretty happy with the results and glad to finally join the Turbo Conversion forum.

I didn't use a kit for this project, everything is custom.

Im boosting at 15 psi right now and I am going to try 20 at the Lebanon DSM Meet. I'm Still trying to find a dyno shop nearby. I believe there is one in Albany, if anybody knows please message me. Hoping to get my Tial Wastegate soon :).

It took my timing belt snapping and the loss of all 4 cylinders to convince me of getting forged pistons / rods during my rebuild so don't feel so bad :)
 
Sweet man, always nice to have the turbo'd 420A! I would try to route those water lines though, I hear not having them hooked up can do damage to that turbo.

I dunno if it is related to my not having water lines, but I had a used turbo that didn't smoke when I got it, and I never ran water lines, and after a month or so, I started burning ass loads of oil. Now I have oil cooled turbo though.

I got the high flow fuel rail (I know i didnt need one but i got one anyways for the future) 440cc mustang injectors and Vortec SFMU. I have a E-manage Ultimage and E-01 but its not in yet. The turbo is a T03E, the guy told me its a super 60 but idk.
 
wheres your intercooler or do you not have one?

do you think that air filter is better than a cone?

and where did you get that exhaust manifold?

I was gonna say man, if you missed that intercooler, you need like a 42" flat panel LCD screen as a computer monitor.

The filter should be fine, but I'd evenuatlly see if you can't get a pipe in there to move it a little farther from the turbo.
 
Thats just sexy man. I'm with you on the set up custom is the way to go. I hate the kits with that almost 180 degree bend at the turbo and they have to use the duel inlets intercoolers on one side those intercoolers are just plan ugly. not tryint to steal your glory just want you see how the wastegate well look. you goin to vent yours?and what size is that turbo? as you can see its alot bigger then my 14b :dsm:

Turbo is a t3/t40b.... I posted this a while ago, since this I've started boosting around 15 psi and I absolutely hate my turbo, either that or I need an external wastegate, but either way I think this t3/t04b is too small for what I like ;) The manifold is a neon manifold that was cut to add on this turbo. It was definately cheaper and more practical to go the custom route rather then buying a star kit and not using half the parts. (more practical for me anyways). Now I'm looking more along the lines of a Green Turbo and megasquirt. Yes the cone filter isn't good but I don't have room for a K&N unless I put some piping off the turbo and move some stuff around.
 
T3/T04B is a great turbo imo. I know they're are definatly better turbo's, and its brother (t3/04e) is a much better successor.

But come on man, at the lowest trim its rated for 475hp, And it seems pretty effeciant to me, but who knows I'll probably change my mind about it too, I just think that when you used the word "HATE" it gives out the wrong idea about the turbo.

Cause I love it!

And yeah, if your boosting high, External wastegate is a much better idea! Pick up a Tial 38mm, and go from there.

I dont know, I like it alot better than non-turbo, but I'm starting to feel its limitations up around 14psi. I guess it could be my internal wastegate. I'm not sure if I like the rpm range of it. It seems that around 5k rpm I don't get any pull and have to shift. Maybe I have it setup wrong, but my fuel is right where it needs to be, pretty damn close to stoich.

I hear ya man, its all good, we all just gotta come up with new and intersting threads to talk about, I'm sure I'll be having a lot of stuff to talk about when I get my emange and e-01 boost controller going, along with my msd programable ignition box.
I'm hoping to write a decent tech article, with some fuel maps, and rotary settings for anyone else who was planning on attempting this act. I had to track down a lot of people on 2gnt.com who used to run it or continued to run it but weren't posting very much anymore.

Livid: defenitaly move to a external set up, that turbo is made for a lot more power, even call up turbonetics and ask.

My mechanic was even wondering why they put this turbo in a kit meant for 5psi, when it performs its best starting at 15psi.

As for the power drop off, I think thats your wastegate setup. But dont' get me wrong you could always sell the one ya got, and spring for a T3/T04E 60trim. I know I'd give up my T3/T04B for that.
