When I was removing my balance belt (7 bolt) I ended up bending the crank plate a little too much. I then went ahead and bent it back and I'm thinking I bent it too far back..

my question is, woul this (maybe 1/4" distance) affect the way a crank angle sensor works? does it need to be flush with the sensor? I know it's magnetized so do you think that would cause my car not to "see" the crank angle?

if it's bent back too far it might physically hit the sensor and damage it. In essense this is what a car with crankwalk does ... the plate will move ( generally waaaay less than .25" ) and hit the sensor.

Just put it on a block of wood and pound it out with a hammer. If that doesn't work, try picking up a new one from the dealer. I've seen a bent trigger plate destroy the crank sensor, so I'd take care of it unless its almost perfectly straight.

yeah man heres my crank position sensor, my trigger plate is bent and destroyed it.
my question is how is the easiest way to get my triggerplate off. i would rather not take off my timing belt LOL...

put the plate on a flat surface and eye ball it . if its not straight keep tapping it until it looks even all the way around

this is my first turbo dsm, not sure i can do the timing myself and its all apart....should i just try bending it back while its on there?

new sensor will be here 10AM tomorrow. (michigan) so ill use the new sensor to make sure it clears.
but say i do bend it back..and it works than half hour later the trigger plate bends again and wrecks my sensor.... im not sure what caused it...but there was a larger bolt on the inside(groved side) of my timing belt and was stuck riding along with my belt going along with the gears and what not

+ say i do replace it or bend it back and it just bends back and kills my sensor again

what im trying to get at is...LOL the trigger plate didnt just bend itself. haha so what if i do replace it and ten minutes later it happens again...

would a bolt rolling around with my timing belt cause this? while this happened my timing belt frayed a little bit. or is something else the cause?

so i straightened it out. put the sensor back on car still wont start. does the sensor just bolt right on and your good or do you have to line it up with the trigger plate or something

uh-ohhh

we may have a problem

the trigger plate looks almost perfectly straight, so i put the sensor on tighened it down and the trigger plate is under the sensor and fits there perfect

You really need to take off the timing components and do it right. I know it's scary at first but once you get going with it and you have good instructions (vFAQ or fsm etc) then it's not terrible. And clearly now checking end play is almost a must because of what happened. Good luck.

With the trigger plate on, you have to angle the sensor inward to get the plate in the slot and then mate the sensor bolt hole area with the front case and bolt down. You can't just drop it in and expect things to line up.

But if you're able to get it bolted down and it doesn't interfere with the trigger plate, you've got an issue.

yeah i think my trigger plate needs to be replaces its still clicking

and i dont have any of the proper timing tools to take off my timing belt

its not knocking on the sensor now, its knocking against something else....no idea what to do?
