Well, I have the DSMLink up and operational on this '95 TSI......However, I am at a standstill with doing any adjustments due to the ECU not understanding the actual coolant temp.
-The original plug that was for the ECT sensor was not found when this car came to the shop. I verified the two wires for continuity that were for the ECT(they were the most logical wires for the sensor as they were right there in the general area of the sensor). One wire had continuity in the engine bay and at pin#83.....the other wire suspected to be for the ECT had continuity to ground.
*The problem all started with this....and then led to this:
-The old ECT(assumed to be original), would read to the ecu much lower temps. than what the dash gauge showed, and was verified to be way off by a IR Temp. Gun we have here...The readings are atleast 50 degrees off, meaning that the ECT reports lower than actual temps.
*I was concerned that one of these was the problem:
-By grinding off some of the plastic housing in the ECT plug to gain access to the ECT sensor terminals and soldering carefully/quickly two wires directly to the ECT......that some damage may have occured to the sensor itself.
-The ECT sensor was just worn out.....needing to be replaced.
-The ECT Sensor has a specific polarity(Haven't verified this one yet)
-The ECT wiring was to be at fault.
*I have tried a total of three brand new sensors(15 bux a pop.....weeee)...and have carefully modified each sensor, soldering pigtails off from the sensor.
-I have noticed no improvement by running new wires from the sensor directly to the ECU(pin#83 and ground directly to a ground on the floor in front of the ecu).
-I have tried to burp the cooling system, thinking that possibly the sensor is sitting in an air pocket....no change/no improvement.
**Does anyone know which pin on the ECT sensor that the Blk/Wht. wire goes to?(this wire goes directly to pin#83 on the ecu)
-Best way to answer would be to look at the locking pin on the ECT sensor(the little plastic tit that the wire harness locks onto the sensor with) while the sensor is installed in the thermostat housing. When standing at the front of the car...looking at the engine...which side of the plastic tit is the Blk./Wht. wire located?....left or right?
**The other option is....I saw in one of the searches I did, that a "wiseman" stated for the '99 eclpise model year, that there was a ground on a certian pin at the ECU for several sensors. It was stated that the info. must incorrect for the '95 model year due to the avail. info from VFAQ.
-Would anyone happen to know where exactly this opposing wire for the ECT sensor goes?...Am I possibly seeing a "not so great" ground on a particular pin at the ECU?
Gawd Help Me?....I am at my wits end with POS....with-out the ECU seeing the proper information from this sensor, I am SOL.
