trying to install my new clarion 755 7" touch screen radio...i got it powered up, but i smelled a little smoke. i dont know if its just from the fan in the back, but i think it may be the wiring. the main 15 volt power cord is connected from the radio to the car, and the 12 volt accessory wire running from the radio, is also connected with the same wire as the 15 volt one. i did this just to see if the radio worked. is this safe? or can someone tell me a better place to connect the 12 volt accessory wire?

Did you get an aftermarket wiring harness? It would make hook up so much easier since all you would have to do is match the wire colors.
Anyway, with that said...
The constant 12v is your memory wire and should be connected to the yellow wire on the headunit and the 12v switch (accessory) is connected to the red wire on the headunit. Read the manual also, it has lots of good info in there, like the wiring diagram.

Also, do you smell smoke or do you see smoke? Chance are it's the "just powered up a new headunit" smell.

Oh yeah...if you keep the radio main power wire hooked up to the 12v constant, your headunit will always be on until you press the power button on it, even when you shut down the car.

nope, no adapter/harness..just cut off the plug and direct attatched them. well the unit turns on and off with the car, so im guessing that its connected alright. just smell smoke dont see any...and ill post pics of it when im done!! thanx fir the help :dsm:

You cut the harness?

Why didn't you spend the 15 bucks for it when you spent nearly a grand on that headunit? LOL

Well...ok then. Make sure that you have all your wires connected correctly. The main wires to consider are your 12v constant, 12v switched, and ground wire. Remember that the ground wire is not on the factory harness, it's actually a braided ground wire. Noting that, make sure you have created a new ground wire and you can just connect that to the bracket that holds your dash up. The braided wire connected to the chassis of the factory radio and that's not sufficient for aftermarket headunits. I say, just recheck your wires again and note where the mentioned wires are and to make sure that they are connected correctly...otherwise your headunit may have a short life span. My 2.
Good luck.
