My 99 gst is need of shocks and i figured while i was at it i would change the springs as well. In the past I have used Eibach Pro kits with Koni's or Agx's on my other cars. I had Tanabe Nf210's with Tokico blues on my Is300 and it was a pleasant car to drive.
With this car my budget is around $800. Im thinking of just buying a Megan coilover or Tein Basic. I have never owned a Coilover setup and they look like they can do the job nicely. Also looked at some Bilstein shocks which seem to look nice. I will never track the car or anything like that. Just need somethin for a nice little drop and relatively smooth ride. What are your opinions and reccomendations?
Thank you for your time.

for a 2g get the koni yellows and springs. good setup for right around your price. will give you a good drop and adjustable ride control like a set of coilovers

do a search on here its actually the recommended setup over the $1000 coilovers

I would recommend the eibach pro kit and agx's. Not too low of a drop and nice ride too.

i have k&r springs 1.4 inch drop kyb agx ajustables, works fine for me a litlle stiff , it did inprove handeling

i did all these for under 700$, if you whant to save some money thats the way to go

You also have a 1G, so your suggestion of AGXs can be forgiven, unlike that from the person who wrote Post #3.

The thread ended with the first reply. Nothing more needed to be added to the reams of information (if you print it out, at least) that is already available here.

my 99 came with AGX which are needing replaced, and i have the ebiach pro kit. it was only a 1.25 lower and its not bad at all and i daily drive the shit out of it. whats wrong with that?

Nothing. But it's like someone who has has only eaten at McDonalds saying that he likes their french fries. It means nothing.

The reason a person with a 1G can be forgiven for suggesting AGXs is that, for a long time, that was pretty much all that was available. There are lots of options for 2Gs, so suggesting AGXs for a 2G DD is not as easily forgiven.

got cha, tiens are on my list, although spendy i like them :) gonna keep the Eibachs though.

I bought the adjustable tokico illumina shocks and lowering springs kit. Slight drop, Drives great.. And was the best deal I could find. 550 if I remember correctly. Never had good luck with coilovers personally.

I concur, 100%. Do it right, get Konis. As for springs, you can get some lowering springs if you're on a budget or step up to a Ground Control kit if you want adjustable ride height. This combo will be better quality and more compliant, and will also perform better overall than any coilover kit under $2300. If you really want to do it right, follow the steps laid out by Dennis Grant (sorry Jtoby) to build your own coilovers using Konis (Autocross.dsm.org - Build Your Own Konis). That will get you the absolute best solution available for a 2g for under $2k and will outperform and be more streetable than any coilover kit on the market that retails for under $2300, hands down. It just takes a little work sourcing all the parts.

You can always spend a little more than that and get the good stuff too - some Muellerized JIC coilovers, Hotbits coilovers, or maybe some KW Variant 3 coilovers.

IMO coilovers seem excessive for a DD. If it is driven on a regular basis you will want to make sure you keep your alignment in check, changing your ride hide is a lot more work than just adjusting the spring perch if you want to do it right. I have a Tokiko Illumina/ Eibach Pro-Kit setup in my daily I picked up in a trade and don't have anything bad to say about it. I like the stance, don't scrape everywhere I go, and it can hold a decent line. Honestly I rarely even adjust them. As for new, +Yellows

Wild guess is because its no better then your previous suggestion and your suggestions are getting worse hence the "slippery slope" phrase...

suggestion? i was just thinking of it for myself not recommending it for others.. i think you misunderstood, and i wasn't the one to make post #3 either, i just said its what i currently have and have had no problems with ride quality. thanks for the suggestion comment, ass.

Ouch! I offer reasoning to your question and your name calling?:thumb: Well if you want to be that way lets gets technical shall we? For starters you were kind of "suggesting" just not directly. The op asked for a good DD suspension and you jumped in with your AGX combo which indirectly suggest to the op that your combo is good.

Next, you state well eibach and teins, now once again even though your not directly suggesting to the op your still indirectly giving the impression that your new combo is good.

Regardless though don't get mad at me for you suboptimal suspension system, I'm not the one who told you the phrase:thumb:

Coilovers are excessive? So are turbos capable of 500+ whp - or really, any turbo bigger than an Evo3 16g. Does that stop DSMers from buying them for a "daily driver"? Nope. ;) Hell, most coilovers available for the DSM platform are inferior to a Koni/Ground Control or Koni/lowering spring combo anyway.

On a budget? Go with Konis and your favorite lowering springs. The Konis will make most spring choices bearable in terms of ride quality. Any other shocks will be a bit more harsh and less compliant on less than perfect roads. The Koni is the perfect choice for a daily driver shock on the DSM. It also just so happens to be a great choice for tracking. If you have more to spend for something even better, see my post above. If you're in a tight spot and need to replace your shocks but absolutely can't afford the Konis, any of the other budget shocks will get you through until you can afford the Konis.

If that's how you think about it in your head. i asked what was wrong with the kyb AGX with eibach, and said thats what i have, then said i had tiens on the list, nothing wrong with that. this is where i leave the thread though, ta ta.

Re-reading your previous statements I will say your sort of right although you still went from a bad setup-to-a bad setup. That was all I was attempting to explain to you by answering your question before you got all anally hostile but ugh anyway ta ta......?

okay ill come back for this quick question. How do YOU know that kyb AGX and eibach pro is a "bad" setup. please enlighten me. Have you ran them? Or are you still on stock suspension? I'm sure 116hp needs mad suspension upgrades.

I've run AGX and Eibach Prokits, which is why I recommend Koni, which is what I should have gone with in the beginning. If you absolutely, positively cannot swing the extra $100-$150 for the Konis, ask to borrow the money - or go sell some parts to get the better shocks.

i believe you on that chris, i was asking HIM if HE had the experience to be calling my setup "BAD" without knowing for himself.

Nope nor would I want to run them although rode in a friend car with them on plenty of times and felt that OEM were much better especially for a DD. Not to mention i found this:

My suspension isn't stock i have koni's and a bunch of random upgraded suspension parts.
