Rear Speaker Depth 6x9?? How deep can you go??

I just got my first dsm, its a 93 talon tsi awd and I would like to replace the wally-world special speakers in the rear. Lucky for me, they are 6x9's so it should have the bracket for the 6x9 speaker (the reason I say should is because there are many other things I have found on this car that very incorrect). Anyhow, to the main question.....

How deep of a 6x9 can you fit in the rear?

I have heard somewhere it is about 2 3/4" mounting depth but I don't remember the source or if it's correct. I would go measure them but I am currently overseas. I dont't want to pound the fender in to make a speaker fit but I would like something with a little bit of bass w/o adding a sub. I have seen 6x9 spacers that are 3/4' and 1" but I don't know if the panel would fit back on with a spacer? I have looked all over the web and haven't been able to find a solid answer. Any input would be great! Or if you are running a certain speaker lemme know and I just research how deep that is.

There is actually a speaker braket on the inside of the plastic liner.So you can always take that out or modify it to fit you speakers..I had to modify my plastic just to fit 6x9s in the first place.

So after you get the speakers, check out what you will have to do to make them fit.

Ok, I will have to look at it when I get back. I am trying to make my speaker decision based on the depth that I need to stay around. I want to get a pair of Vibe 6x9's that are very beefy looking. They actually look more like a small sub than a standard speaker. Which depending on depth I may go with a 6.5" sub in each rear speaker hole and make a bracket for them. I am trying to get a good sounding system w/o a huge sub lurking in the back and weighing a lot.

Check Crutchfield for mouting depth. There's not a lot of room behind that panel.

They make a 6x9 sub. It has the same face surface amount as an 8. you can Google it (6x9 sub) and read up on it. I was kind of interested my self about them.
You may be able to make a rear deck and add a second set of 6x9s like I did for my car. Still covers the back area behind the seat and adds a bit to the system.

That one says it is 3.25" deep, which I think can be squeezed in there! I will keep looking though too, hopefully I can start the audio portion of my project a little here in a couple weeks. The budget and time are short though for now as I am getting married in sept...

i have pioneer ts-e or ts-g i think it is in the US and its one of the biggest 6x9 there are and i had to hammer a small curve is the wheel lining to get the magnet to fit, its all good and still works and no problems with the lining either. done this about 2 years ago now

These are the speakers I am still debating on. The reviews I have found on them say that they are very strong on the low end. But as you can see they are quite bulky. I think once it is time to fully drop the hammer on speakers and an amp it will be a tough decision. I don't know much about Vibe audio, but for the prices...it's almost worth a shot. Does anyone have any personal experience with Vibe audio equipment, besides subs????

I have never heard of them before but, those things look beastly!!!!! I have however dealt with Sonic Electronix before (off of ebay but still the same). Big thumbs up! However when I got my Boss 6x9s in, 2 of the 4 speaker grills were broken. I didn't care, I just put those behind the rear panels and the other 2 on the rear deck. Anyway real good pricing from them and super fast shipping.

Well, I have been able to find some reviews on the front speakers but not much on the rears that I am currently wanting to run.

From the reviews those Space 6 speakers seem to be great if amplified. I guess if not amplified the mid bass kinda sucks bc there isn't alot of power from just the h/u to drive it. I'm guessing it would be the same on those rears as well considering the power rating and general size of them.

I replaced my front speakers in my 2g with Vehicle Speaker 6.5-Inch 2-Way | CH6520 | Boss Audio Systems and they rattled the doors just off of the head unit and stock amp. I don't know if yours has a stock amp in it or not but, its not to difficult to run a small amp or two.

If your looking for awesome sound and something that's worth denting something to fit a speaker get some JL Audio's JL Audio: Car Stereo, Speakers, Subs, Amps, Home Theater

Why dent the car when you can use a spacer? I plan to make some spacers out of wood because the depth is too shallow to fit most decent 6X9's. Speakers with limited depth are mostly the crappy ones with tiny magnets on them. IMO it would be better to cut the plastic panel and use a speaker grill, than to dent the fender. I wouldn't recommend speakers made by Boss, Radio Shack, sold at Walmart, or sold at flea markets and pawn shops. Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, and Boston Acoustics are some reputable brands.

I love my Boss system. I don't compete so for what I wanted, it's great. I love their sound and for the price, I couldn't beat it. Everything in the car Boss and I would recommend it to anyone who may be on a budget and wanting great sound.

i have some polk 6x9's in my car. Used some speaker spacers and tapped in some of the metal on the car and they fit fine. Nothing major of an install.
