14b to 16g swap

im thinking about buying a 16g for my 1g and wanting to know if its a direct bolt on or need adapters or different parts.

You need to do that just to fully use the stock 14b. But you need a tuner before you can touch the fuel system.

well mine has a 14b stock and it snapped a shaft and got an offer for a 16g and wanted what all is need to do or need to make it run right so i have to tune it if i put the 16g on

If you are looking to run it at the wastegate pressure it will be just fine.

If you want to make power on it, you will need injectors and a fuel pump as well as tuning.

As long as you stay below about 12 psi you will not need to retune or need any other parts. If you plan on going higher than that you need a atleast evo injectors, 190lph or evo fuel pump, and somthing to tune the injectors with.

ok maby i dont want the 16g now because the tuing shop down the street from me is like $100 an hour to tune. i can get the 16g or the 14b for the same price so i really want the 16g. so i thought if i have the 16g i can go up to 14 like the 14b or is the 12psi a precausion so i dont mess anything up. and if i go over what will it do

Your injectors and fuel pump are going to be pretty much maxed out at 12psi. If I were you I would go with the 16g and just keep the boost low until you get some supporting mods. That way if you do want more in the long run you will have already upgraded your turbo.

sorry for all the questions guys but heres the picture of the turbo it looks like a 16g to me but not sure. not to familair with turbos with the difference is. and am i able to use the lines and what ever its called that looks like a vacuum and a rod going to the elbow

its a 20g turbo i just did research on it. the last 5 digits are 05400 and thats a 20g. so is this a direct bolt on

As long as it has a dsm hotside (looks like it does in the pic) then all you should have to do is mod the lower intercooler pipe. The 20g doesn't use a J pipe but everything else should bolt up. Make sure you keep the boost low no more then maybe 10 psi until you get some supporting mods. Hope that helps.

AFPR, that is somthing you need to look into when going to a bigger turbo. so overal to do it rite,
walbro 190 or 255 (but will want to rewire the pump for 255)
AFPR
Injectors atleast some evos
Wideband
Tuning device of some sort.
From what i have heard that is would you would need to do tou car rite.

i also talked to jusmx and he said it doesnt look like it has a wastegate and i will have to custom fab it so dont think im getting it

Yeah, that 20g is a bit above your needs. That's a good 400hp+ turbo. I would still suggest finding a 16g over a 14b. It will bolt right up and you don't have to do anything to run at stock boost. No tune, no injectors, nothing until you want to crank up the boost. Then when you want to crank up the boost, you have a good 350-400hp turbo depending on which version you get.

And in my experience, a good condition 14b isn't much cheaper than a small 16g (typically on Craigslist). Pay the small difference now and you'll be glad you did down the road.

yeah but i cant find any near me that are good. and i can get a 14b for $90 for the same guy with the 20g so im going with the 14b and buy a 16g later because im low on funds

Sounds good! Just be sure to check for excessive shaft play and oily housings before installing it.

Just use the one off your 14b.

Personally i think you should just keep the 14b and buy supporting mods instead. I guarantee you will be much much happier with the end result.
