I posted this on another forum as well and I'm just looking for some reassurance on a purchase I made and I just wanted your guys' opinion on the motor and setup:

Block: 0 mile 2.3L 4g63 stroker o-ringed, .20 over 6bolt, OEM 2.4 crankshaft uncut and polished, Eagle H beam rods, Ross 9.0:1 stroker pistons, evo III headgasket, ARP L19 headstuds

Head: small port Hyundai Sonata head with matching intake plenum, 0 miles Delta k272 cams (intake exhaust), Evo 9 valve springs and retainers, ss valves, new seals and gaskets.

The motor is torqued and timed already. I should've asked about this prior to buying it but, you live and you learn. This is my first Stroker.

Also, I read you should retard one of the cams (prefereable exhaust cam) 5 degrees...?

Thanks in Advnace!

Not exactly sure what is your concern but the setup looks pretty solid to me.

However, i would suggest against just going and retarding/advancing your cam gears like that. Find out if the cams were degreed and how they compared to the cam spec card.

Get it running first, then when you have access to a dyno or some sort of performance meter, start adjusting cams little bit at a time until you reach the desired effect for your setup/goals. Check the "Tuning & ECU" articles section on some hints and tips on how to go about that. But get it up and running first, that would be my suggestion. Hope this helps somewhat.

Thanks for the input, I'll start putting it together in the meantime

You only need to mess with timing marks and belts when using a DOHC head on an actual 4g64 block. You either change the timing marks or use Galant DOHC timing belt and gears. But since you are still using the 4g63 block (just with a 2.4 crank) time it just like a 4g63 with the stock timing marks.

The hyundai head has a different size combustion chamber which is going to raise your compression ratio to more then 9.0:1..

yeah that was my other question, what is so special about using a sonata head. I think its a 95 head and intake plenum. The guy told me the plenum flowed better than the 1g. I wasn't too concerned with the head at the time, I was more interested in the block and was thinking of buying a head. But I guess I'll run this for now!

Thanks for that.

I think I already know the answer to this question but: Are my k272's too small for the stroker? Don't I need to go wtih 280's or fp3's?

No, k272's have an effective duration and lift that is the same if not higher than many competitors 280's. Besides, 280's would be more useful in a higher revving 2ltr. For a 2.3 with a 56-67mm turbo you want 272-274 duration and 10.5-11.5 lift.

just as a toss in, i just picked up a fresh 1.8l Elantra head at the pull n save here to replace my 1g head, and it is a large port head.

idk how much this stroker will gain from the smaller combustion chamber, but when i calced mine out, on stock pistons, gasket etc, i would be going from 7.8 to 8.18:1. unsure if thats correct, but it may give you something to look at. GL with the build, looks solid, makes me wanna get my 2.4 goin.

I think I seen somewere that that had ads .4 to you cr. so with your 9.0:1 you'll have a 9.4:1.
