Mods are in profile. My e316g blew today. Was driving got into boost a little and sounded like a coupler blowing off. Then it started to whine. Was boosting fine. Went home did a boost leak test. All good. Decent amount on in/out shaft play. Went to drive it and it doesnt boost. Whines a lot, and scraps sometimes. So other than a rebuild (which might not be an option if its bad enough).

What are some good/cheap(er) upgrades. I was shooting for 400hp on my 16g on 93/meth. Looking for quick spool, 380-430hp with out maxing out the turbo. Dsm flange.

And go...

Thanks.

Rebuild it, add 20g wheel and compressor housing (or machine existing compressor housing if still retaining stock internal wastegate) and smile.

You said it was scraping, make sure it's even rebuildable first! Sounded like you already need a new compressor wheel which is why I suggested the 20g wheel.
:)

EDIT: Been so slow lately.. Ed beat me to it.

In/out play enough to hear scraping, so the compressor wheel and cover are trash...turbine is likely trash as well. It's fixable, and can be converted into a 20G easily and for a reasonable price.

It's your cheapest option that will net the best results without buying someone else's headache. PM me if you want to talk specifics.

Might want to figure out why the turbo failed before you slap another one on there. Turbo's especially stocker MHI's don't just fail for no reason. If you send it to me I'll tear it apart and tell you exactly why it failed for free.

As far as what I can do for you I can likely do a 68HTA upgrade for 700$ if your turbine wheel and bearing housing is fine. I can also do a 71HTA upgrade for $900 and replace your 64MM cover with an 84MM Surge ported cover and add a 1bar actuator. Unless the compressor wheel came apart I seriously doubt your compressor housing is trashed especially for the use of machining it out and replacing it with a larger wheel.

I would do either a HX-40 or HX-35 in a .70 BEP T3 housing. You'll fall in love with your car all over again. I went from a 20g to a HX-40 this year, WHOLE DIFFERENT BEAST :D. Or, if you like the BEP Borg Warner turbos...we can get you deals you can't beat anywhere!

For $700 I'd get a hx35 and bep Bolton housing and spend the $300 leftover on a fp cast manifold and could lines/etc

I'm leaning towards doing a 20g upgrade so I can use my hotside and all my oil coolant lines. Where are you guys find the holsets at? I havent had much luck. But that is an options Ive been debating.

Your goals ultimately determine what turbo setup you will go with. Do you mind some lag, quicker spool, more top end, more mid range, etc. Once you determine your goals, then you do your research and pick a turbo.

My goals are stated-quick spool, 380-430hp and hard hitting. I was planning on maxxing the e316g to 400hp, but now I want to reach that goal with out maxxing the turbo. Later Ill build the motor and drivetrain and go bigger, but a good street turbo is the goal now.

Green is a great turbo, but its well over 1000 for the turbo and parts. I can get a 20g upgrade for less than 500.

Check dodge cummins forums classifieds sections for holsets, there are usually a lot and they generally sell them from $100-$500, but mostly are the $250 range, I was going to go the holset route but went with PTE 6235R instead along with a bunch of other stuff thanx to punishment ;) amazing turbo I must say
