a little info on my car it is a nt stock bottom end turbod. there is no egr system on it. i am running a stock ecu. the only mods i have is a header turbo back exhaust and now a walbro 255.

i just replaced the fuel pump earler this week. tonight when i was running it around and the check engine light would come on the car would die drop 2000 rpm. the check engine light went off and the car picked right back up. i could hear a click from the ecu area. so i went and parked it in the shop shut it off. went to restart it and it will turn over and over. i can hear the fuel pump turing on when i let off the key the clicking starts and dosent stop till i shut off the key. i pulled the fuel pump back out there was no problem with it. all the lights come on on the dash.

I believe that the clicking is one of the symptoms of the notorious bad capacitors in the cpu. It is suppose to stink also from the fried capacitors.

Ill check that. When I got the ecu they said it was rebuilt but it was real cheap

As far as the idle it just surges alittle when cold

Could be the MFI relay too... if it's not working, the fuel pump doesn't turn on. No fuel will make starting it pretty hard. :D
It's a big relay in a brass housing, right in front of the ECU. If you can easily hear the clicking, and it's pretty quick, I'm betting your MFI relay is shot. When they are going bad, they can hang open and function erratically. I'd open the dash kick panels up and get a multimeter on the MFI when you hear the clicking. If you get 12v power on the feed side but less on the output side, it's going bad... if the output jumps with the clicking, the switch is getting weak and will probably fail soon.

please do not over look the battery i had the same problem but my ecu was ok and after a day of taking my car apart i figure my batt was dead.:ohdamn:

This - if your alternator or battery took a crap, once the battery gets to low to start the car, you'll get a rapid clicking of the MPI relay when you attempt to start the car.

went to the shop after work jumed in my car and it fired right up. went and beat on it for a bit it started acting up again. died about a block away from my shop it was clicking like crazy again i tapped on the ecu and it went away and fired right up. pulled the ecu apart visualy inspected and it looked ok. pulled the ecu from my other car. when i was switching chips i looked to make sure i had no bent pins and found one had broke off inside the socket. it was the pin closest to the center of the ecu.

i dont have another stock chip to test. could this be why it was acting up.

Yep, that would definitely cause it.
