I have been searching for awhile and maybe not yet stumbled upon it, but I'm looking to find out if and can tell a 4 bolt from a 3 bolt rear diff by just looking. I have my 90 GSX on jacks the other day and seen it read BF? Viscous LSD on the diff cover. Now I have not found out if LSD is a 4 bolt or could be either???? If anyone can throw some advise that would be great.

3 bolts came in LSD too. You probably have a 3 bolt in there. Easiest way to check is by counting the number of bolts holding it on to the wheel. Crawl under and just follow the axles to the spindle.

There LSD 3 and 4 bolt rears. Just look where the axle bolts to the cups near the hubs and count the bolts. Pretty self explanatory from there.

You can also remove the rear CV axles to check if you have LSD or not. If you see through the gears the other side of the diff, you have LSD. If there's your diff pin blocking the hole in center, you don't have LSD :( From stock state, only 1990-1991 1GA DSMs had 3 Bolt rear diffs, 1992-1994 1GBs got the 4 Bolts. Most were LSDs, nut not all. You can also inspect your driver's door sill for an OEM ticker in orange color that says: This vehicle is equipped with a limited slip rear differential. I've searched a lot like you for knowing all that :thumb:
