Hey Fellow Tuners,

My name is Will, I'm mainly a Lurker/Researcher of these forums, so I'll get down to business. I'm trying to piece my build together and I would like some advise on whether or not to upgrade my valvetrain...Here's my story--Back in 07' my 7 bolt spun a bearing, so I decided to start a 450-500 hp build for my gsx. Over the years of taking parts off, buying upgrades, putting the project on hold for 2 years since I was unemployed, and now finally being able to start back up on this project, I have hit a bit of a snag now that I'm again able to buy parts.

My plan was to use a 6 bolt block with my 7 bolt's head. It has seen 2 over heats, one from a broken water pump and the other to a broken harmonic balancer, causing the belts to snap when I wasn't anywhere near my home..:ohdamn: It was fixed via valve jobs and 1 deck resurfacing. Now that on this last occasion of my spun bearing, I pulled the head to take it apart for when I have it sent out for a port&polish, stud hole drilling and the oil port mod I happened to notice that there was oil in my 4th spark plug socket, and my valves, although not bent by the looks of it, have some unusual wear towards the top near the retaining locks. Here are some pictures to show what I'm talking about.

This is when I pulling the head off way back when It blew.

here's after I took the valves out. Notice the break in the metal grain on the valve in the last pic..It's only on my intakes not on the exhaust.

I honestly don't have the technical expertise to diagnose my valves, or have the means to take out my guides.. If someone would be so kind to gimme a proper diagnosis, that would be great. If it comes down to it, I don't mind upgrading to some oversized valves, new guides, seals, etc, but if I don't have to and still meet my power goals, then I'll just let well enough alone. If more pictures are required just make a request and I'll snap some. If you need any additional information I will me more than happy to supply it.

i dont notice any significant damage to your valves i see a little bit of flaking down in the spark plug hole but i dont think its much to worrie about. im sure a machine shop can clean it right up. you can probably reuse your valves but if you went with oversized valves it would make it alot easier to hit your power goal. a bone stock gsx has 210 horse power so depending on what mods you throw at it will determine how far you can go. turbo, internals, tuning method, injectors and such. good luck!

Ya, I figured upgrading would make life easier. Right now I have my bottom end bored .050 over with some aftermarket 2g pistons. I have no idea what brand though, my machinist picked them up for me a few years back. A fidanza flywheel. Got an fp green and the race manifold. The revised lifters, kiggley beehive springs and retainers, BC 272's, fidanza cam gears, stock rockers, BSE kit, and after my head work is done I'm gonna try to get my hands on some pte 880 injectors. So like I have a general plan that I'm following, but this is just the important bit where I don't really want to skimp out on, but it's all getting put together at the same time and I don't really want to have to disassemble it again if something went wrong using my old parts. I'm thinking I might just bite the bullet and just upgrade LOL.:thumb: and thanks for the hastily reply.
