ok guys so looks like if i remember correctly i have a cometic head gasket on the car for now. 3 days ago i started loosing power on the freeway and check compression. 1-4 was 180, 125, 165, 180.:beatentodeath: took it to a shop they did leak down test and said block was good.:D thank god. said it might be my head gasket or valves. yeah i know and i dont want to :argue: with them. so ok. my head has been done like 6 months ago only.:confused: what went wrong? my question is if the cometic head gasket let me down ( just me ) should i go with oem straight from mitsubishi himself? one more thing guys should i go with stainless steel intake and exhaust valves? whats the ups and downs on this. i have evo 8 valve spring and retainers on the head. well i might be selling the car after i rebuild the head so keep your eyes open. everything on the car and extra laying around will be included.:cry::cry:

which include evo scan navigation standalone, open port 2.0 cable, 650 fic injectors, stock catback and down pipe. 2 black box ecu. all stuff in my profile, and my 32 way adjustable megan racing coilover. i paid around 2g for all this stuff. this doesnt even include the turbo the oil lines the fp manifold, fmic, hks cams etc. sorry for the long story but it will keep some of you guys busy for the time being :D

dang Tony did you even get it tuned yet?

Did you overheat the engine? Because usually if you lift the head thats where it start bending the head the 2 middle ones. Is you coolant turning brown? Also if they did a lead down and it was good it means your valves are good right? A leakdown is suppose to test how well the cylinder can hold air.

Could be the pistons, do a wet test, pour oil into the 2 middle cylinder and test them again. If the compression goes up it could be your rings.

yea bro this sucks man. i was gonna go get a tune and all a sudden it just drop out of the blue. cant do a wet test now because the head is almost off the block already. when the shop did the leak down test air blew out of number 3. i hope its not the rings. dude told me it cant be the block because it will take alot of pressure of air to escape the block. i dont know he didnt even put the timing to tdc and didnt even hold the crank pully. all he said was theres a way to by pass it. i was like ok LOL. wish me luck bro

ok guys just wanna come and say i was wrong. i do have the cometic head gasket inside the motor. took the head off and found out it wasnt the gasket. it wasnt bent valves. it was bad exhaust valves. yea sucks. i guess tomorrow ill take it to the machine shop and have them pressure test the head for any crack and so fourth. no tuning soon for me :D

it was bad valve stem seals. :( might be down for a month or so. might be looking for stock head. my best bet is first shop did a half ass job and didn't changed my valve stems seal when they first did my head. i guess you get what you paid for right? but instead in this case i paid a grip and received a half ass job. no names of shop will be mentioned but this time it will be done right.

thanks jack i do need a head. if its a 98-99 head it will work. im not sure myself too. i know the cas on the 97-99 sits on the passenger side. let me know how much and if it will work.

Was the machine shop that did your head ,the shop just installed it

alex im done with these half ass job shop. i paid a grip and got a half ass job done on my head. you know the story and how many times they redid my head. same head gasket, intake manifold gasket, etc. all their cheap fel-pro auto zone parts i didnt want. i even paid for my own stuff. bottom line is half ass mechanic shop will send your head to a half ass machine shop and tell them we just want this fix. they told me it was just a bent valve and replace 1 not even checking the whole head. second time they mess up the valve seals and guess what hahahahahah yup same ones exhaust valve seals leaking. told me after my second head rebuild that head is perfect no problem. after 4-5 months down the same road. the machine shop does what they're told. its the mechanic shop that makes the calls. do we want to loose more money than what we charge him or do we do a half ass job and hope he doesnt check his compression down the road. yup. these guys even messed up my oil return line too. 1 thing is for sure. lesson learned. you get what you pay for and like i said in my case i got rip off for a half ass job. this is how i feel when i think bout it alex :barf: LOL :hellyeah:

Sounds like its a pain. I did my first head job not too long ago. I didn't think it was bad. Not bad as I thought it to be at least. Just take it to the machine shop yourself. Tell them exactly what you want. Then order an upper gasket set from Mitsubishi or something and install everything, time it. Start it. Done.

yea josh. the head is off already. also in the machine shop. going to redo it correctly this time. had the machine shop tore the whole head apart and they found that the valve seals were bad. owell like i say ill be down for a month at the most. it sucks not being able to role in my baby.

Lmao you didn't say all that at work , good luck with new head :thumb:
