Reading wideband AFR through logger....?

I would like to get a wideband, but I dont my another bulky box in my car like what Innovate offers. I would like to view my wideband AFR through my looger. What do I need to do to make that possible? Is it even possible for my pocketlogger to do that? If so, can I just buy the wideband sensor, or do I need to purchase an entire kit? Please feed me as much info on the subject as possible. Thanks. :dsm:
 
If you buy a wideband with a 0-5v output you can wire this into the 2nd o2 sensor on the ecu and then logging that will log your a/f ratio.

A good device to use when using a wide band unit to tune your air/fuel is made by PLX devices. this device allows you to log data from your unit and display it through a USB port or Optical digital o/p . with this Wide Band O2 you can output a 0-1v sarrowband air fuel from the wideband sensor to the front o2 sensor (pin 60) on the ecu. this way you can eliminate the use of the front o2 sensor. you will still have the unit, but you can mount it in your glove box or somewhere useful.
 
From discussions on the dsm-ecu list it seems that alot of the wideband units have issues with voltage offset when reading their output voltage compared to what they display. You might want to research what ever unit your interested in.

The EGR line to the ECU is a 0-5v ADC channel if your not using it.

Well, I'm considering the AEM unit. I have them in stock and they are less than $250 (for me). It has two different analog outputs: a 0-5 volt and a 0-1 volt signal. I asked Mike over at Digital Tuning, and here's his reply e-mail:

"It would appear the best bet is to connect the 0-1v output (not the 0-5v) to
the rear o2 input. Keep in mind that if you replace the rear o2 w/ the WB
you need to have no cat.

The reason you need the 0-1volt output instead of the 0-5v is because the
way OBDII is spec'd out. It only allows us to read a little over a volt
even though I'm sure the input could handle 5v, like the 1g DSMs do.

The output isn't linear, but it's pretty close. It's a lot more linear than
the 0-5v output. The downside is that the 0-5v output may be a little more
accurate since you are taking the same scale and spreading it across 5 volts
instead of 1 volt. But for all intents, it will work fine."

I can tell you this from my own experience. I have the AEM WB gauge unit in my car and I have the 0-5 v wire hooked into my rear O2 pin on the ecu, the AEM gauge unit does not have a 0-1 v output wire. I cut the wire on that pin and directly wired the WB wire into it. So far no problems with it, that being said the ECU can only read 0 - 1.27 volts ( normal o2 values ) but that corresponds to 10.0:1 to 12.5:1 A/F ratios which is more than acceptable for tuning. I have successfully tuned my car to run 22psi ( pump gas ) at 11.2:1 to 11.5:1 A/F ratio right from 4000 rpms and up.

Still to this day no ill effects from running up to 5 volts through that rear O2 pin, No CELs either. Also in the future I plan to upgrade to the DSMlink and this also works with that setup.

I run a PLX M300 model wideband. This model has a small display that I have mounted on the steering column so as for me to see it easily while driving. In addition I have DSMlink setup to read the wideband output as well. DSMlink has the ability to log up to 4 0-5v outputs for 2g's if you have the MAFT (baro and IAT are used) or if you dont, you have 2 loggable inputs (MDP, 2nd O2). I personally have my PLX wired into my 2nd O2 sensor wiring and have DSMlink setup to recognize this signal as my PLX signal, so it perfectly displays the wideband output in my logs without me having to correlate voltages to AF values. In addition I also have the PLX wired in as my front o2 sensor, so that my closed loop operations are performed by the PLX as well. DSMlink supports many other wideband O2 sensors, such as the AEM in your case, and has specific output to recognize each input as your specific wideband.

To my knowledge you cant log any additional sensors with a pocketlogger.
 
OK, I just got off the phone with Innovate. My company is in the process of picking them up as a new vendor. The model I am looking at is the LM-1, and they are on backorder for the next 20 days. He said he should be able to round one up for me and send one to me to "try out and keep", in an effort for me to offer my company direct feedback on it's functionability. SCORE! If all else fails, I can still use the AEM (i have a couple here allready). Either one should work. Thanks for the help and replys guys. I'll post my results with this.
