Ring filing

I need help with ring filing. Really I just need a link to a suggested tool.


Note: I have never done this before. Ive looked up a few video on youtube. I do know how to use mic's and feeler gauges. So I think i will be ok. I dont think anybody needs to know but if its a must its manley 8.5:1.

It's easy file very little and slow as you go and keep measuring the gap everytime you file a little bit. Check a local machine shop they usually have them. Make sure you check mostly on top of the cylinder and the bottom since that's where the rings do most of the work.

make sure you file toward the inside the ring, then once gap is set, go around the edge you foled and remove the burs.

Amazingly I dont but I live right across the street from Lowes and Home Depot.

I just use a fine flat file. Works great.

What bryanwheat said, a fine flat fine would be better than sand paper, the ends of the gap need to be parallel

I've got the same one, works fine.

I just use a fine flat file. Works great.

You can do this as well. I think its easier to put the file in a vice and run the ring on the file from the outside to the inside. Which ever method you use, open the gaps a little at a time.. you can always open the gaps further but you can't close them after you've filed the rings. Debur the edges of where you filed the rings.

Best thing I have found to deburr is actually a sharpening stone for knives. Use a bit of oil and just rub it around. Works very good!

That is the excat one I have in the shop. But they were not that cheap when I bought mine about 8-9 years ago.
