Your striking out but it is best to pass if things don't look right. I wish I would've passed on my 2g 3 years ago, its not fun fixing someone's f-ups.

Sorry I drove for about 6 hours last night and didn't get home until early this morning. Since I said I was going to post when I got home whether or not I got the car I posted and then pass out.

The guy was giving me a hell of a deal he's a honest guy and I would support anything he says, my saying no wasn't for fear of being ripped off.

He lowered the price and I said I was going to get it. We drove to his friends house to pick up the tires and I got out of the car and looked at it and backed out. The car was over heating, over heating pretty bad. Also, while test driving it, it felt like it was just as fast or maybe slower than my mid 200hp jetta and the car was supposed to have twice the power of my jetta. The boost was dialed down to under 13psi on a 20g and I've never really driven a car that needed so much spool but I had to get to almost 5k to have full boost and it was obvious the car needed some serious tuning work. The owner of the car is in Florida for flight school and when he built the car during the winter he had to remove a radiator fan to make room for header and wastegate. Well since it was cool out when he drove it before he left for Florida he never had a problem with overheating. Yesterday it was probably 100deg. outside and the car was overheating like crazy.

When his buddy showed up to show me the car it had gotten so hot the over flow spit out maybe a quarter gallon of anti-freeze, I thought that he just blew the core. I think at this point I was already thinking no way in hell am I driving this for 3 hours...like this.

The whole reason I was looking at this car was because I was under the impression that it didn't really need anything. A couple little things here and there but it was supposed to be mechanically sound. I talked to the guy on the phone for a long while about everything. He's probably right about it just needing another radiator fan and then there shouldn't be a problem with over heating but how do I know that?

My main problem was having to drive an overheating car three hours back home. I was getting a hell of a deal, I was going to buy the car for way under kbb and he has about every mod I can think of on the car already. I didn't say no because of value to cost ratio or because I felt like I was in a shady situation it was just because the car needed some tweaking and it scared me to drive it home "as is". If I had a tailor or only lived a few blocks away the car would be sitting in my driveway...

I regret not getting the car when I look back on it but at the same time I had to go with my instincts and if I was that nervous about buying it I didn't want to jump into something I didn't feel comfortable with. I think if I was easy on it the car would have stayed cool on the interstate with all the airflow coming in. Who knows though /shrug.

Is that a good explanation?
 
Probably mde the right choice. If it's spitting antifreeze, slow boost, poor tune, had to tell what other problems it may have. Overheating always worries me, doesn't take much to warp a head.
 
What a 1997 Eagle Talon AWD? 123,000 miles and runs like a champ. The motor was swapped with a 98 GSX parts car we bought. It has 92k. Whole BC setup and much more.

Also have a 90' Plymoth laser fwd. MHi 16g, and more! Runs amazing and clean.

I think you just named three cars and my head was spinning a little from reading that. Please be a little more specific about each car. Do you have pictures or a link to pictures? Do any of them have rust? How much are you asking for these cars? Be as descriptive as possible, thank you.
 
The 97' Eagle Talon is the one in my profile. It has some minor rust, nothing too bad.

The 90' Laser (black) has a Big MHi 16g, nice front mount, (not mounted yet but made for the car specifically), a ported and polished head, very deep nice sounding Flowmaster 3" inch exhaust from the turbo back. It runs like a champ. Minor, MINOR, rust.

The Talon has a great strong motor. NO knocks at all. Its set to 20 psi right now with the 20g. Has a dent of the rear drivers side panel. Pulls pretty hard!
 
Thanks for some clarification. I'm getting swamped with school this week, I have a test in both classes and have more studying then I have time for. I'm looking at another car this weekend that I've already had scheduled but if I don't get it then I'll be contacting you to look at your cars maybe next week sometime.
 
My car shown in post #21 is available. If you don't want to waste any time with others, I strongly encourage you to take a look at it. I challenge ANYONE to find a cleaner 2g or any brand of car this clean. I will have an ad sometime this week and many more pictures AND video. Would be willing to take it as far as Lacrosse, WI. That would shave off at least 2 hours of your time. I GUARANTEE there is nothing you need to do to this car. Haven't came up with a definitive price but $9999 is probably what it will be. The KBB base price + wheels and tires are worth that alone. These are true Racing Hart wheels NOT C5 knock offs.

Hello Phunny, I'm at work right now going thru my paypal receipts and there is quite a bit in there. Most of my purchases were either from Brookdale Mitsubishi in MN for the OEM stuff, ExtremePSI and a few other vendors. When I get home, I will see what I all have. Paul Laabs @ Northside Machine here in town did the head & block.

Many receipts here plus the 8 or so on Paypal that I didn't print off yet. May have others as well if I dig some more. Parts were purchased NEW! Not someone elses junk off the classifieds.

That is probably the cleanest dsm I've ever seen period! I actually ended up buying that spyder I got a good deal and couldn't pass on it. Going to be a real challenge beating the overheating issue and all the little stuff but I could use the experience and learn some things.

Bump for you and this gorgeous 2g!
