i am thinking of buying je forged pistons for my bottom end but need to know some info first

would i be ok just buying the je forged pistons set
bore size 88.0mm (+.020" Overbore) compression ratio 8.8:1 (Boost)

or

should i buy the same set but with the forged eagle rods ///i want to know if ill be ok just buying the pistons and staying with my stock rods....if any of you guys have some good info for me please let me knoe thanks :aha:

It all depends on your goals if need to have stronger rods or not. I would personally invest in new stronger rods.

so then stay with my stock pistons and get forged rods or get the whole kit because i was just thinking of getting the pistons i want to be able to run at least 15 psi and up afther this install let me know thanks

A bit off topic, but a few months ago i was talking with the guys over at dsmgraveyard and they were telling me about a frankenstien srt4 neon rod/piston(stock) for the 420a. Im not sure if they have gotten anything done yet, but give them a call, you might get lucky.

On a sidenote, if they can do something in that combo, the srt4n rod/piston has bin known to do 500hp on a stock bottom end.

thanks bro ill check into that but for now i just want to buy the je forged pistons but will like to know if i should just buy the pistons or stay with my stock ones and buy forged rods like i said befor i want to run at least 15 psi and up afther the install....

also dose anyone know if i can do this job myself what tools would i need and how would i go about dong this...

at least 15 psi and up afther the install....
^^This part = Eagles (though of course, boost is NOT a measure of power. But that tells me that you will want more power than the stockers may handle) IMO, the stockers are good for 250whp-300whp tops.

Um....how can we answer this without knowing you or your work experience. Can you even change your oil? Lol, you get my drift......

by me stateing that i want to run at least 15 pounds of boost and up im perfering to the amount of presure i want my motter to with stand not power wise i know ill have power i just need a good bottom end to hold that amount of boost

hahaha LOL never mind my experience im asking if theres a way i can install the pistons my self with out bringing it to a shop i can do the job just would like to know whats the steps and tools i will need thanks for the "joke"... but i need info.....

Okay, then you'll need both upgraded pistons and rods. The stock rods can't handle much power and the stock pistons will be trash if you encounter under any detonation under heavier boost. It would be foolish to stop there, though.

There's no point in adding those components without also replacing the bearings and gaskets and seals. Of course, while you're at it, your timing components and water and oil pumps should also be replaced. Chances are these components haven't been replaced in a long time.

As you can see, beefing up your short block isn't a matter of just replacing two parts.

You can do most everything yourself with the right knowledge and skill. Certain things you won't be able to do, though. You'll need to take the block to a machine shop to have it bored and honed and cleaned. You may also want to have the crank polished for good measure. If you're a competent mechanic with the right tools, you can assemble everything after the machining is completed.

Either get it all or get none. One part by itself won't do you much good.

Ratchets, sockets, etc... basic mechanics tools. If you have to ask questions like these, you aren't prepared to do the job yourself.

If you say so...

never said i was beefing up my bottom end just getting it ready to handel highier boost

This doesn't quite make sense.

from what ive read on 420a s the rods are the weakest part of the system under boost. but ## still dealing with a 9.6:1 comp ratio. i would imagine damage to the pistons and def rings that are gapped for a N/A use. If you were to put new rings on the stock pistons and gap them properly it should hold a good amount of boost. and make sure with that comp ration that the head is really solid. btw, u dont have to be a smartass to people that know what theyre doing.

my bad this is an old post. looked at ## mods and u have a msns so im sure you got the rods and pistons.
