Budget Big Brake decision

Hi,
I am finishing my car, GSX 95 with gt30r, BC 272, wiseco pistons, eagle rods, eagle cranckshaft and many mods and supporting mods, I am estimating 400hp, no matter waht boost level.
Now the question is i am buying big brakes on a budget, under 1k, i have evo 9 wheels, so i was looking for Baer big brake kit or Wilwood 140-8292 kit. Baer is 13inch 2 pistons and wilwood is 12.19 inch and 4 pistons, 2 part disc.
I am planning for trackday and autocross, no drag racing.
which one will be better for the money.

Well, since I run the 12.75" Brembo stockers on my STi, I'd have to go for the 13" Brembos combo for a track day car. The downside is the extra mass, the 13" rotors are heavy, very heavy. The 2 pc 12.2 Wilwood are lighter but they have much less thermal mass. Its a toss up depending on how heavy your car is, what terminal speeds your going to be hitting, and how much breaking your going to be doing. I couldn't see running the 12.2" .9" thk rotors that come with the Wilwood kit, thats strictly a street setup and even Wilwood recommends against it for track days.
 
I was thinking the same thing, i dont know de thk of the baers, but i couldn't find anything bigger or thicker for the eclipse on the wilwood site, does someone knows?
The speed your where asking is over 120MPH at least with that horsepower.

I was thinking about that, but at the end , you spend more money, you need new disc, new pads, plus JDM knuckles or some type of modification to bolt them on the oem knukle, that ends up over 1000. If you know a cheaper way let me know.

stock evo brembos work on 2g's with slight modification you can get them used (obviously) off ebay for anywhere between 5-8 hundred for everything

There’s no point of going with 3000gt brakes you would move up to evo brembos anyway. maybe that’s just me. Just hunt for those brembo and you won't regret it.
 
IMHO, try and piece together a Brembo setup and if you can handle the extra rotor mass, you will like it. I actually have trouble building enough heat in the brakes at 70-80 mph highway speeds to stop optimally during a cold stop, this is on Porterfields R4S pads. I've yanked em down from 130 mph with zero fade and nothing but a smooth pedal. They can handle the abuse on a 3300 lb AWD car. Physics is physics, bigger/thicker is going to absorb more heat, and the cooling vanes can pump it out. Maybe not as effectively as the Stoptechs, but good enough for a track day. The Wilwoods would be much much worse and I advice heavily against using that particular kit.
 
Which cadillac caliper 4 pistons or 6 pistons?? the 4 piston from cts-v needs 18inch wheel???
order cobra rotors. Make brackets and Bolt some cadillac cts-v calipers to it and call it a day. Bad ass brake kit under $500
 
I have the Baer Brake kit on the 1g. These brakes work really well. I haven't had any problems with them yet. These brakes look really good too. The only thing i don't like is that i can't put stock wheels on it anymore.
 
Seeing as there's a guy on this forum that's thinking about fabbing up brackets to bolt the EVO Brembos on the 2G knuckles (there's a thread on here somewhere :thumb:) The EVO conversion's looking like a good alternative to the "big brake kits" out there.
 
I have the SVT Cobra brakes on my talon, they are essentially the same thing as the Baer brake kit. I used the cobra 13'' rotors with the cobra calipers. I got a kit from RTM Racing that adaprts the cobra caliper to the dsm front knuckle, and you need a hub centric ring that perfectly centers the massive 13'' rotor perfectly. The kit with ss brake lines ran me around $240. The calipers I got for about $100 off ebay. Its a toss up depending on how heavy your car is, what terminal speeds your going to be hitting, and how much breaking your going to be doing.

A car's terminal velocity is similar to it's maximum speed.
As car's start to accelerate there is more force pushing the car forward than there is air resistance slowing the car down.
As the car's speed increases so does the air resistance, eventually the force of the air resistance will equal the the force of the car's acceleration.
At this point the car can no longer accelerate, it has reached it's terminal velocity.

i think only cars that reach 550mph+ and weight around 3500lbs (it all has to do with speed to weight ratio) could do this but thats only in theory, and just if you ever wondered off topic it means:

Terminal speed is also the speed at which the downward pull of gravity is balanced by the equal and upward opposing force of air resistance for a falling object and if the car was falling off a cliff and gravity pull is 10 m/s2 x 3157lbs = 871.541feet per second drop,

i know thats not what you were talking about but i just did alot of math to solve this equation for you, now you know the terminal speed for a 97 gsx drop!!!
 
While I can easily meet your price goals the fact remains that the Wilwood factory kit in this application will be under whelming for your needs. Great for AX, street and the occasional track day (with correct pad) the kit is going to come in to light weight for serious open track use.

You need both more rotor and more pad for this. The DP caliper is a great part but here will be operating in it's most extreme upper limits. Why push it so hard? You are much better off with some greater rotor mass and much thicker pads for longevity and thermal barrier.

But...you're not going to get all that for sub $1k either. And no the smaller kit cannot be enlarged or built up later to make it more than it is as delivered so if you do go this route understand that you'll be looking at full replacement if and when the time comes.
