So I got a deal on a T-28 that I just couldn't pass up. $125 shipped. Think it'll be my turbo of choice for a good while and gonna see just how far I can push it (hopefully way past the 11.82 posted on the FP website, being that it's been there for a long time now). On the exhaust side, it has 9 blades, it's unported, and well, that's about all I know to tell. Is there any identifying marks to tell where it came from maybe? Not sure what actuator it has. Just paid for it last night and it got shipped out today.

Posting a picture when you receive it (or from the for-sale ad) will help. There are different versions of the FP T28, so it may take some research.

If you can best that 11.82, I'll be impressed for sure.

If it's an FP T28 it will have an FP logo on it. Also the older FP T28/28 has 10 exhaust blades and the newer FP big28 has 9 exhaust blades. I am also going to try and best that time with my FP big28.

Ah, you have a better memory than me. I second this information now that I've been reminded of it. The FP logo is engraved on the top of the turbine housing, near the inlet.

Also, I ran my FP BigT28 at 25psi and 19* up top on meth. Pretty fun/insane hit of torque, but I wouldn't call it a mid 11 second car. It's going to be difficult to best the 11 second run, props to whoever does it. Oh, also I ran FPs 17psi actuator, which I highly recommend.

These are the only pics I have for now....

Also I haven't really seen anyone with a BUILT setup running one of these turbos. Maybe some injectors, pump, and tiddlywinks here and there. Lol. Guess we'll see how my project turns out.

Also wondering if the Holset actuator mod would work on this turbo. Being that I'll have a T-25 laying around with an actuator I can hack up and see Holset actuators on ebay going for around $30-$35ish.

From the pictures I do not think it's an FP Big28, I do not see FP logo or the white ( I think it was white) strip on one of the exhaust blades. Anyway my set up is, FP Big28, fp2 cams, walbro 255, dsmlink and will be running E85. I see in your profile that you have a spec 3 clutch and fidanza flywheel, hows that setup working for you? I went with the exact same set up but still putting the car together.

The turbo used can be found for about $150-$350, new is a bit steep, $832 from FP. I bought mine used, had I been shopping for a new turbo I would have went a different route.

Ignore my mod list right now. That was my last dsm and the one in the little picture. Car I have now is completely stock (for now) other than a used K&N filter. The Spec clutch has worked out pretty good for me though but may with a 4 puck this go around when I convert it to awd.

As for the turbo, don't think I'd really want a big ole FP logo on it. How many T-25's do ya see with that on there? Um, kinda gives away that you don't have a stock turbo with that logo on there. Also, I'm seriously doubting that anyone, or at least not many, have clipped their T-28's and when I get my car built up a lil, I may just have that done to this one. Wondering what the horsepower rating is on the 9 blade turbo is though. Have read that the old T-28 has 10 blades.

Still debating on what route I'm gonna go for the wastegate. Thanks for the link above. Have to read it when I have time and not having to get ready for work.

The logo is hidden when the turbo is mounted. Turbo rated at ~"360 hp," or 36lb/min.

My 9 blade FP Big T28 did NOT have the FP logo stamped on it...good turbo though. I ran it at 17 lbs after the build I did over the summer and it was a beast combined with a set of 272/264 Deltas.

I'm seeing a little dampness on the heat shield behind the turbine wheel as well as the turbine fins themselves. I'd get this turbo rebuilt before you push it to an 11.xx pass or you could be smoking your way down the track.

For the price you paid it's nothing more than piece of mind to have the turbo rebuilt.

I had a bigt28 on my galant vr4 with every supporting mod there is, for a short time. I also had a small 16g, big 16g, evo3 16g, 14b, gt35r, hx40, all on the same setup. The big t28 was exactly like having the small 16g on the car. I also had the 17 lb actuator. Of all the small frame turbo's i've run, nothing compares to the evo 3. The hx40 in a bolt on housing, was a better turbo for my needs than the t3 35r.

yes, i agree with usmx141. you should send him your turbo and he will take good care of it. i am still debating if i wanna send him my 7blade hx35 before i bolt it on... even though it has NOTHING wrong with it... just for that peace of mind.

I have a brand new 17 psi actuator from FP if you're looking for one. Let me know. :thumb:

I'll check it out when it gets here. 1st thing I have to do is drill out a broken manifold bolt (yay!!!). I'll probably slap it on and drive it as is for awhile. If I get to the point of wanting to clip it (and I'm sure I will), that's the point at which I'd send it in for a rebuild....if it's not needed beforehand.

Anyone know if HRC still makes the upgraded wastegates? I use to see them on their website years ago but now I can't find it. Unless they build them but don't list them.

I'll be looking for an upgraded wastegate alright. Just need to get the money 1st and my job is killing me right now in pay :( I'll keep ya in mind though. Depends on what you're asking for though.

Clipping is not needed for that turbine to reach it's full potential. The compressor itself will only generate 36-37lb/min at peak, so the turbine isn't the restriction. You'd just be wasting your money.

For shits and giggles, heres my old GST w/ FP Big T28 before I parked and redid the engine bay, including a 7 bolt rebuild. I guess the numbers were ok but it may have been all the factors I pointed out on the YouTube info that explained the low numbers.

Shifted at 6K, I was scared of blowing it up since it had 180K miles on the clock. haha

Mods at the time:

Ebay filter, Thermal Catback, hard UICP w/ 1G bov, MBC at 15 psi

YouTube - DSM GST w/ FPT28 dyno

Gonna be very hard to pull a high 11 with that thing unless you start ripping some weight out of the car.
