While waiting for for parts to arrive, I decided why not try to change the color of my cracked up grey leather seat? I decided to give DupliColor a try after reading good stuff about it on plastic parts. I tested a small spot on the back of the drivers seat first, it seamed like it was durable so i did the whole driver seat! I think it looks really good and filled the cracks good. I so far used like 6 cans @ $8+ a can but i think it will hold up good for a while till i can afford real white leather. I think the back seat will be easier as its not all cracked and worn. I just thought id share this with anyone who thought about doing it but wasn't sure.

I think that the paint is going to fade very quickly from you moving alot in the seat......

How long do you let it dry for? Also please let us know after a few days and even weeks how its holding up and some pictures too. I saw this stuff tonight at Autozone and just kind of ignored it since I figured this stuff can't be for real.

Well Ive been giving it at least 30 min between coats but it drys to the touch quick.Ive been doing this for 3-4 days now on the driver seat so its had time to dry between coats but at outside temps. 58F now. The can says to paint when temp is 70f-90f. But i didn't care as its only gonna be getting colder and i wanted to see for myself how this stuff works. To be honest when i put the first few coats over the crack it kind wanted to crack back when i sat my 210lb rear on it so i decided to do the driver seat really thick 6 cans so far, most on the front area around the crack and sides where seats see the most flex. And i have bounced my butt up and down on the seat as a durability test. I'm not purposely trying to destroy it but i am trying to make sure it will hold up I think I'm gonna put on 1-2 more cans and call the driver seat done. You can pinch the leather and it doesn't crack. Should have my car running soon.:rocks: I cant find a signal harness for my SAFCII though and APEXi says there on back order and don't expect any for a few months. I will definitely let you guys know how it hold up over time.

Hmm..sounds like I would have to do this when I'm not driving my car for a few days. But thanks for the info. Good to know I'll need a bunch of cans for this and that the drivers side would need a good bit of coats. :thumb:

Yeah, what's up? Looks interesting.

What kind of prep do you do on the seats? Cleaning of course, but what about any type of primer? Do you scuff it up at all with anything like sandpaper?

Did you put the seats in the car yet? What is the status?

It'd be way cool if this works, although if it takes 10 cans per seat, I might as way spend the money on the professional leather treatment kits and do it right...However if you could get by on just a few cans it might be worthwhile.

I think for about $150 you can get everything to strip and retan the seats and they have lots of colors, too. So we need to know how well this works and the total investment before deciding. hmm..

Just to be clear is this the stuff?

itll last IMO. i used the same paint for my interior but for the door pannels. my manager told me to use the addesive paint first AND THEN use this paint, and it kinda makes sence so that it holds better.

other than that looks nice,:thumb: and i mean......its a good job specially if your thinking of gettin real leather in the fututre. because itll look bad after a good wile from it siting on the sun and starts to peeal off LOL:p good job tho looks clean:thumb::cool:

painting on the seat idk im courios at least to know the out come ill be looking for updates

it will not last on the seats i used it in my entire car to paint everything black ...not the seats tho... but i use 2 layers or primer 3 layes of that paint and my doors still wear off over about a moth time.....just buy leather seats for the car it will save you some headach, when it wears it will look like frosted flakes

Word of advice from someone who has learned the hard way, NEVER EVER EVER paint your interior white. Even the little bezel around the speedo on my N/t was brown in a months time despite cleaning. As far as the seats, (I painted my door panels black with that same paintk chipped and faded) he might have a white butt right now. I personally will never waste my time with that paint again.
