Hi guys i just bought a 96 TSI and it came with a dsm link but i cant get it to work on my loptop i have a keyspn usb serial adaptor but DSM link wont work through it it says I/O failed: Command timed out. I know the link works cause the dude i got it from showed me on his laptop howto use it but i cant get it to work on mine through usb

i have vista on my laptop

Any u guys every have this problem?

Make sure you're running link on xp or lower, you can do that even if you have vista. Right click the icon on your desktop for link and go down to properties, than go to compatibility and click "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and chose what version of windows you want. Hope that helps.

It said the keyspn drive installed succesfully so i dont think i need any drives for it

and i dont know if the dsm link is registerd or what every sence it came with the car i bought but i will check the vistat fourm

Ah, that's right. Vista usually automatically finds drivers for stuff like that. I'm not used to that yet.

You will have to get the previous owner to send the guys at ECM Tuning (makers of DSMlink) and e-mail saying they need to transfer ownership to you. Then you'll need to send in your name, user name you'd like, and chip number (I don't think there's anything else...) and you will be granted access.

How do you register for access to the DSMlink forum? The registration has been disabled by the admin.

Do as cougar posted above. You have to own DSMlink to access their forums.

Thats alot of work just to join there fourms. I really dont want to have to pull out the ECU and take it apart just so i can talk on there fourms.

I think i will buy a long serial cable and find a out out of date pc like with win 98 on it which i can find free now days at the land fill then then hook it up to it and run dsm link at my home on it or maybe i can find a cheap old laptop somewhere

i just dont understand why it dose'nt work on my new one

Also i noticed on the keyspan the little green LED flash is that normal? or should it stay solid green when useing it?

It should stay green when it's connected.

If I were you I would get that number anyway even if you get an old labtop cause there's a lot of really smart people on there that can help you with almost every aspect of tuning your car, unless you're that good at tuning.

THis might sound stupid but is your car on? not running but on?

I know that happend to me. But obvoiously your dsmlink is working since you can bring it on the laptop.

you just haveing the problem between the ecu and Laptop.
